Hitting .347 with 8 homers in 27 games with the Brewers!!
I don't want to beat an old drum again (about me being the coach who would lead us to to CWS) but the fact that Andrew Vaughn was so great at Cal shows we could be great with the right leadership.
Baseball is a sport where smart play really makes a difference, which is why we should constantly be great.
Keep beating that drum! I'm with you 100%.
The ACC is a highly competitive baseball conference and we seem to be stuck in mediocrity. I believe a few players from last season (24-31, 9-21 in conference) hit the transfer portal. Why? Frustration?
Time for a change.
I would serve as our interim Coach (no more than 3 years) and I would help to recruit my replacement.
This would be putting Cal Baseball above other projects, but I am ready to interview should the position open up ....
I'm tired of being so mediocre too, especially when we should be great!
Edit: The main difference you would notice if I were the Coach is that I would think of the whole season as a tournament situation, where winning every single game is crucial. Backup players would only see the field once a win was guaranteed, for example. Pitching matchups would always depend on who gives us the best possibility to win each game, and the batting order would be designed accordingly.
The purpose has to be to win each game ....
P.S. -- I am an aggressive (and convincing) recruiter.
I would make sure all the best smart players in the world know they should want to play at Cal.
