Here is my annual projection of the Big Meet. Projections are strictly a WAG. With the meet held so early, you have very little results to go by, particularly from the Stanford side. Because it is the 120th Big Meet, you never know for sure who will be running and in what events. Many of the athletes will switch events, just to get those important team pts .i.e. former SB player Khaylor Taylor might be in the Javelin, where she has already competed in this event this year. In addition, not sure if any athletes are injured or some athletes might not even compete, choosing instead to delay the start of their season. In other words, it's strictly a guessing game. With this said, I am predicting the guys to win going away and the women to lose by a single pt.

Very well done. There is also a Cal TnF reunion of sorts being arranged by Bridget Duffy. Probably 30 folks expected.

The women's competition appears even and the Cal men suprisingly dopes out with a one-sided victory. Interesting...I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Regarding the women, Stanford in the past had the sprinters, Hurdlers, and jumpers. This year no one in those events and the only sprinters they have are some 400 meter runners. Of course their strength will be 800 thru 3000. However with us being at home, we very well could sweep the meet. :gobears:

For our women forbes hadn't jumped since Jan and Kroeger had indoor only. Tonn is back and in shape though.


For the men Lefavbre is a 1:48 800 runner and Atchoo a 4 minute miler.

We just aren't a dual meet team this season.

You guys got too many interchangeable parts in the mid to distance races, so I just filled in the races with names but of course have to pick a Cal runner, Locklear, who last year in the BM was 2nd in the 800 and upset everyone in the 1500. I will however say he is not particularly running well now but then again this is the BM, so looking for him to 'put down' again.

Anyone knows what happened to Collin Jarvis? Thought he was originally listed on roster and I believe he was a redshirt senior. He is now dropped from the current roster and also seems to have vanish from the prior year rosters (computer glitch?).

Year 2000 when both of Cal's teams won. Guys 84-79, women 82.67 - 79.33 (I kid you not).

I attended meets from the mid 1950's up to around 2000... remember T&F greats like Don Bowden, Leamon King, Archibald, Siebert et al. Those were exciting times and great marks for those periods even for today.

I have not followed our teams closely for the past few years, but I am baffled how we can compete with Stanford because I read their board and they enroll a lot of nationally rated athletes--- particularly in distance races.

So, O73 watch out if Bobbk of Stanford is playing possum with you on their athletes. The only thing I think could be happening is that Stanford is now recruiting mainly athletes who can score points in the conference and NCAA's and eschewing dual meets.. USC started doing this decades ago.

Hope our Bears compete well in the meet.

I think the ranking #2 by our men, while Stanford not being ranked in the top 20, validates my men's score. The women loss Kori Carter who went pro and the other all world runner Nelms who decided not to run. they loss major pts in these two. This is the year we need to beat them because next year they have an unbelievable recruiting year..so far bwtn 25-30 recruits.

Yes..thought she would be in the SC. Of course, no inside information but purely WAGs on my part.

I went on the Stanford forum to look up their rosters (M/W) and discovered they have very large contingents and a goodly number with very impressive times and marks. Don't know if they just were blowing off the BM or have a lot of "red shirts" because there should be nary a reason to not enter competitors in some of the events that they did.

Please remember Bobbk said they "will be BAAACK! Don't know if he is referring to the rest of the schedule or next year. He is a sharp cabeza for anything related to Stanford sports.

You are right about Cal next year, too, since graduation will take a large toll and a number of our best performers.

Throughout Bobbk's comments about being back he is referring primarily to next year but did put in a 'dig' for this year that what counts is the Pac-12 and NCAA 'ships, which they would most likely outscore us!

Yes we had some injuries but mostly both men and women lacking sprinters hurdlers and jumpers. Injuries were to women LJer /TJ er and same on men side plus HJ. 3 athletes total and at least 2 redshirting. We have a huge excellent class coming I for both men and women

Women will do well at PAC 12 and NCAA men at NCAA
