Delta variant surges in Midwest as Trump Country rejects vaccines

For The Deplorables, tRump, by underplaying the danger of Covid and politicizing masks and social distancing, is the gift that keeps giving. In the coming weeks his cult members will be checking out like flies. He is literally killing off his own base. They are so f@ucking stupid and full of hate that they would cast a ballot for him on their deathbeds if they could stay alive until 2024.

"Biden set a goal for 70% of American adults to get at least one Covid-19 shot by July 4, a symbolic nod to Independence Day. Despite ample vaccine supplies, he missed that target, largely because the government has struggled to give away shots in rural, deeply conservative regions that are bastions of support for his predecessor, Donald Trump.

Two Americas have emerged from the growing vaccination gap. In one, dominated by states that Biden won in the November election, most adults got their shots and daily life is rapidly returning to normal, with assurances from health officials that the worst is over. But in the other overwhelmingly Trump country fewer adults are vaccinated and health officials fear that the new, more transmissible delta variant, first observed in India, is driving a surge of cases, hospitalizations and deaths."

I was thinking about it today.
At this point there's enough supply, and it's free. So if you don't get vaccinated, it's because of your own decision or laziness - your fault.

So if people die, so what.
And we need not blame the unvaccinated for killing others through variant.mutation spread, because there are enough worldwide to create those new rounds of the bugs.

Therefore, no masks. Carry on per normal the vaccinated will live, and the idiots will die.

Unfortunately it may not work the way you think it does.

First - because the vaccines may not hold in areas of widespread infection.

Second - you should also keep in mind that not everyone has the same access to health care so while it may be easy for people like you and me to get vaccinated, it's not the same for all communities. People who get infected and die are likely to continue to be poorer than average and more likely to be minorities.

Already had Covid, not doing a vaccine for which I'm already protected now, yes that includes the "Delta Variant" and any other variant out there.

People who die from Covid tend to be over 70 years old and/or obese or suffering from pre-existing conditions.

I'm on your side on this, really I am, but the number of Americans who haven't been vaccinated because they still don't have easy enough access to the vaccine must be very small. Three months ago, sure, but...

When you say this, it almost sounds like when people say you shouldn't need an ID to vote because some people can't get an ID. They're on the right side of the issue, in general, but it sounds ridiculous.

Why do you think the people with the least access to healthcare in this country are also least likely to be vaccinated?

We can talk about the reasons why this is the case and the fact that through a variety of mechanisms it's in the process of being remedied, but a disparity still exists.

And fir the record, I have intelligent people in my family who've chosen to not get vaccinated. I sure hope they don't get I'll, or die! I didn't mean to say "who cares" so callously.

My aunt actually was recently rushed to the hospital and nearly put on a ventilator. This was ultimately due to a disease called something like myocenia gravia, not Covid. But she's chosen to not get vaccinated and I have no idea why. She's a liberal who believes in magical things.

But during her hospital visit I couldn't help but think, "well, you did it to yourself, Lois."

Your prior infection should provide some natural immunity. It would appear that you would have even more protection against Delta if you also got vaccinated but I understand you have a culture war to fight.

They're also more likely to die if other unvaccinated people are around them.

Certainly a factor but there are also other reasons- fear of government, fear of science, fear of the speed of all this- that don't necessarily correlate with education, politics and income. France is an example- among the least vaccinated country in Europe and most skeptical about vaccines

Sure, outreach is critical to help ensure as many people are provided with vaccines as possible. My point was that it's still true that not all communities have the same access to healthcare options including vaccines.
