I can't vouch for it but blungld posted a link in the thread "Donations for Ukrainian Refugees" about 3 weeks ago. It's on Page 4 of Off Topic but I'll give it a bump. He posted it elsewhere too, I think.

I've also read about people booking immediate reservations at Ukrainian Air BNBs and paying them with no intention of showing up in order to get money to some average citizens of Ukraine right away. I'm not sure how well that would work at this point.

Red Cross is always a good option in times like these.

I've read that our National Guard up in Sacramento has had a long relationship with Ukraine, having trained their soldiers for decades. Might be worth an inquiry to drop off some tents and medical supplies.

There's also some really good links in this article for how you can help the people of Ukraine.

Don't feed your darker side. Pouring weapons into Ukraine will only prolong their suffering, this is not an even fight and the outcome is pretty much settled, despite what you see and read in the MSM.

You can trust Cal88. He's definitely never been known to post things that randomly happen to line up perfectly with Putin's agenda. There is no years long history of him oddly promoting Russian propaganda.

He was most recently right about Hydroxycloroquine being a miracle cure for COVID, which he claimed would disappear by July 2020, just like it did in Europe. He was also correct about Trump easily winning the election in 2020.

You can pretty much book it whenever he makes a prediction.

Ad hominem attacks like yours above typically happen when you have a combination of a lack of argumentation, along with low moral standards, which politically-tinged message boards tend to bring out in some posters.

Despite being a world-class university, Cal is also a culturally insular institution and community. You might actually benefit from views from an outside perspective, instead of shooting down as "Putin propaganda" anything that doesn't fit your narrow mold.

The link I've posted above was a fairly candid and emotionally detached technical assessment by the current head of the French armed forces, who has analyzed the situation with top-flight intelligence, published in the leading newspaper in France.

The key military objective of Russia is to cut off the supply lines and encircle the main Ukrainian army forces, 50k-60k strong, located on the Donbas front in the east. This will probably happen by late April to mid May, the Russian advance in the north being slowed down by the muddy season. They were able to advance more easily in the south due to the milder climate there, while in the northern areas the soil experiences a deep freeze which results in very heavy mud conditions in late March-April until the vegetation cover takes hold. If the main army position of Ukraine is encircled, the large-scale war will be over, essentially reduced to an urban guerilla fight.

The fact is that you regularly make bold claims that almost invariably turn out to be horrible takes, like when you suggested COVID would be gone in the US late summer 2020. You can pretend like we shouldn't take into account your prior history when evaluating your current statements, but it's perfectly rational and reasonable for us to do so.

As for the strange coincidence that your opinions happen to line up with Putin propaganda, I'm surprise you are offended. It's certainly not a personal attack, merely an observation of your communications here. I would think, given that you so frequently align with that propaganda, that you would be proud of those views. Are you implying there is something wrong with Putin's regime or the propaganda he uses to support his regime?

Genuinely wondering. If you don't agree with what Putin is doing and has been doing for decades, just let us know. I certainly didn't mean to offend you by pointing to something that is pretty obvious to observers.

As for your attack about Cal being insular it's pretty irrelevant to this conversation (I'm not a student at Cal and not a member of a hive-mind) and pretty funny to see you holding yourself out as an "outsider" when we all know you just happen to be parroting propaganda here.

I understand that anything that's outside your Overton window will be labeled as "Putin propaganda", I don't expect much more from you and the handful of regular posters who think, or rather, react the same way.

This is part and parcel with the vast cultural collateral damage that came from the Trump tenure, the relentless political polarization is now a social media mainstay, which pretty much took the fun out of participating in a board I had been very active on since day 1, or even further back to the days of Nad Permaul's GoBears mailing list in the early 90s...

Still, I am making an effort here to present some material that comes from a different, perhaps more global perspective that some board members might appreciate. Feel free to ignore it.

It only took 6 posts before someone mentioned Trump in a non-Trump thread, not bad.

I'll give you credit for actually acknowledging that Trump lost.
