Obama and Clinton were incredibly smart. Frankly, no one who challenges Obama's intelligence has any credibility. I have a friend who took conlaw from Obama at Chicago and had told me about what a great professor he was even before he ran for President. Ironically, this same person also knows Trump quite well and, let's just say, that long before he decided to run for President I had been regaled with first hand stories of his idiocy, and those of his moron demon spawn.

There are of course numerous smart conservatives like Pompeo, Cotton, Hawley and DeSantis (as well as others) but they mask it. The problem is that they have to act stupid to go anywhere in the GOP because for the conservative base, intelligence and elitism are inextricably linked. That's how you end up with people like Boebert, MTG, Gaetz, Gomer and others being prominent national figures. And Herschel Walker is likely to be the next football senator from the south following in the footsteps of the hopelessly useless Tommy Tuberville.

It wasn't always this way. In the 80's and even 90's, the GOP was the party of intelligent and well-educated people. Think Alex P Keaton. Unfortunately, people like Newt Gingrich spent so much time pandering to the deplorables that the deplorables realized they could elect people in their own image. I think we all know where this is going and it's not heading back to intellectual GOP leaders any time soon.
