How many of us here had gender neutral bathrooms when they attended Cal? I know I did. Gender neutral showering areas as well. That seemed weird for roughly less than a day and then we all moved on with our lives.

Anyone that has a problem with gender neutral bathrooms with individual locking stalls undoubtedly has better things to worry about in life.

Agree. It's a non-issue and now that establishments are changing their bathrooms to gender neutral it is even less of an issue except for my girlfriend who hates to use them because men are pigs which is an option as well. Just don't use public restrooms if you can avoid it.

My parents were woke before I was born - they had a gender neutral bathroom installed in our house before I came home from the hospital which my mixed-gender siblings and I shared.

We both know many girls went up to the all girls floor on the 7th floor in Unit 2 to take showers and pump and dumps and this was before cell phones.

Was this a large restroom with multiple stalls serving large groups, and you all went at the same time?

These bathrooms were unusual, but most college freshmen tolerated them. Many women went to the all girls floor because they didn't want to use the restroom at the same time as biological men.

What I am reading is that you are comfortable with it so everyone should be. If someone is comfortable with gender neutral showers and locker rooms at gyms now, irrespective of what you or you wife may view as comfortable, tough **** and deal with it. Or is it that such a gender mixing arrangement is not OK until you become comfortable with it and you say it is OK. Amazing how some people think everyone else must reflect their views and norms. Not narcissistic at all.

I was apparently mistaken that Michelle Goldberg had crawled under a rock somewhere after losing the Munk debate on whether to trust the mainstream media by the largest deficit in the history of the debates.

Turns out, she's lost two debates there. She lost the political correctness debate as well.

"Amazing how some people think everyone else must reflect their views and norms."

I hear this a lot from people on the right. They are usually the ones trying to legislate their morality on other people such as writing this STATE LAW :

"Public agencies shall require every multiple occupancy bathroom or changing facility to be designated
for and only used by persons based on their biological sex."

You don't find this hypocritical?

You are talking about two different things.

When I stated that I still feel uncomfortable using public, non-single stall, stadium style gender neutral bathrooms, the response was that the responding poster was comfortable from his days at Unit 3 with co-ed bathrooms (which I am also familiar with). As such, anyone who is uncomfortable just needs to get comfortable.

Why? Why do the rest of us need to be potentially made uncomfortable so that 0.4% of the population does not have to be uncomfortable?

Even 10 years ago, gender specific gyms, showers, and bathrooms were viewed as the norm. Why do I now have to share a non-single stall bathroom with women so that a man who identifies as a woman does not have to be made uncomfortable by having to go to a man's bathroom? Don't bring up Jim Crow as an analogy. Gender segregation is not the same. Otherwise, get rid of anything that is gender related, whether gender specific sports, gender-based locker rooms and showers, gender-based colleges, gender-based scholarships, gender-based drafts, etc. We clearly do not think separation by gender is the same as separation by race when it comes to access to facilities where we may have to undress.

And no, I do not find that law objectionable. Do you find it objectionable that we have laws stating that people cannot walk around naked? If you don't, why don't you? Do you find it hypocritical that we have laws that make it illegal for women to go topless but not men? If not, why not? Why is that even illegal? Why is that OK but not making gender specific bathroom by biological sex not OK?

Be consistent because if you are not, you are just virtue signaling. If you are OK with getting rid of anything that separates genders, at least I can respect that.

Think he is pretty much done.

I am also thinking that Biden could somehow misplay this that he will be blamed for what happens with the debt ceiling. I understand who is at fault, but some may feel their own personal life was better when Trump was president and will go with that even though they voted for Biden following the pandemic disaster.

I would not vote for Trump under any circumstance, but all this is playing right into Trump's hands.

I wasn't telling you what to believe. I was relating my experience with a diverse group of people who encountered a situation they'd likely never dealt with prior to living in the dorms and what their reaction was.

On a separate note, why did you bring my wife into the discussion and call me a narcissist? That seems rather extreme. I guess this is a touchy subject for you.

I do think that it might be appropriate to make sure that any area with public restrooms also provides one private bathroom for people who are uncomfortable sharing restrooms.

This is what you wrote - which was very dismissive of anyone who may have a different level of comfort:

"Anyone that has a problem with gender neutral bathrooms with individual locking stalls undoubtedly has better things to worry about in life."

I brought a question about your wife not to be insulting but because I suspect most men would have less issues with sharing a locker room / showers with women than women would with sharing with strange men. Just a point to highlight that, because you are comfortable with sharing bathrooms with women, it is narcissistic to suggest that others should get comfortable and should just find more important things worry about.

Amount of time we spend on transgender issue that impacts such a small percentage of the population while we have a looming black swan event with the debt ceiling, runaway deficit, geopolitical issues that will reshape the new world order, China and Russia coming out more and more as blatant enemies looking to minimize us, school shooting, runaway crime where people do not feel safe doing basic things like taking public transportation. Yet we f****ing spend so many calories here and elsewhere on this stupid issue.

We are a country of morons on both sides of the aisle. And no, this is not just a Republican issue. This is also a Democrat issue in playing identity politics just to add another progressive badge when we have much greater priorities.

Can we get past identity politics in this country and be a serious country that can get past virtue signaling on both sides?
There are 1.3 million transgender adults in America. They have family and they have friends. Something like 5% of Americans are LGBT. They have family and they have friends. You insult them all (myself included) when you dismissively call it virtue signaling.

We hear so much about the transgender community because the right is targeting them in a culture war in order to win votes for the subjects that concern you (default, debt, etc). It all leads back to the same place. Money and power. Standing up against the targeted harassment of the transgender community is the right thing to do, in its own right. We wont abandon our family and friends. We can walk and chew gum.
I am sorry that you have personally experienced hatred based on your life choices. All people should be entitled to the same rights and privileges regardless. My hope is that your life choices have made you happy and that you have been able to find a fulfilling relationship with another person regardless of their gender as it relates to yours. It's none of my business to know the particulars of your situation, but thank you for sharing.

However, I must agree with what some of calbear93 is saying as well. The culture war on your right to live your life as you choose merely exists to divide us among the same lines as racial hatred, religious hatred, and everything else to keep us from uniting on class based issues of economic inequality and inequality of opportunity. I don't care about China or Russia, but I do care about regular people getting crumbs while the wealthy and powerful and corporations get socialism.
