But did CZ make the right decision? FTX could take down the whole crypto thing. Did CZ shoot himself in the foot?
You make a good point.
I guess the definition of "good" money being thrown at "bad" money is all up to one's perspective.
That "bad" money (FTX) may have been so far gone and completely beyond his control.
Could CZ really have stepped in and saved FTX (and the entire crypto-ecosystem) from collapse?
And even if he did have the resources to do so, would SBF put his ego "down" for long enough to submit to CZ's demands and new business plan?
Either CZ had the resources, had a pretty good idea of how far "gone" FTX was and understood the "fallout" impacting the entire crypto environment for years to come .... but chose not to intervene because SBF was a maniac AND FTX was too far gone . . . or he didnt have the resources to make a capital injection that he would have little control over given FTX's non-existent compliance and accounting department.
CZ is smart enough to know that this is an emerging industry and there would be multiple "failures" along the way. He probably just felt like he had to "hunker" down and watch crypto adoption around the globe take a massive hit. The collapse of FTX has reportedly cost CZ roughly $16 Billion.
For now, he's probably thinking "survival of the fittest" and who can he acquire (Voyager Digital) without taking on too much risk.
Cults don't end well. Think Jonestown.
