I took a tour of The Breakers and a couple of other summer cottages in Newport.

Newport was beautiful in the summer when I went, but it seems a strange place to build a vacation home. Can you believe that the land alone cost $450,000 in 189x?

Talk about conspicuous consumption.

One of the few times Hearst Castle allowed Hollywood in. The pool was depicted as part of Roman magistrate, Crassus' villa in Spartacus (1960):

I took this photo of the pool in 2016 when it was drained for repairs.
