The Cal women's team came up short at NCAA's this past weekend losing to Princeton, with Furd defeating USC 11-9 in the title match.

Best of luck to all the Cal Seniors, including 6'3" goalie Isabell Williams who kept us in a lot of matches this season with 245 saves.

I'm not writing papers for submission here … am I ? Good you were not any of my professors huh
So sorry. And it does explain some things like the short sentences.
Strange how you need insurance to have a car and drive but not for a gun and yet that didn't help you at all.
Anyway, it shows your character that you worked hard to recover...twice!
Total respect.

OK, back to the topic: 2nd Amendment --

I agree with what Carol Anderson is saying about the racist origins of the 2nd Amendment. But that's not the entire story.

The other huuge piece that's not mentioned in the video (not sure if it's covered in her book) is that Thomas Jefferson and several other Founding Fathers were adamant against having a standing army during peacetime. They saw a standing army as a threat to small-d democracy.

It looks like Carol Anderson's book is an extension of the research & writings of Thom Hartmann, who is the foremost authority on the history of the 2nd Amendment, and how & why it came to be.

Here's a link to Hartmann's book, The Hidden History of Guns and the 2nd Amendment:
https://www.amazon.com/Hidden-History-Second-Amendment-Hartmann/dp/1523085991

From the book description:

Quote:

Hartmann examines the brutal role guns have played in American history, from the genocide of the Native Americans to the enforcement of slavery (Slave Patrols are in fact the Second Amendment's "well-regulated militias") and the racist post-Civil War social order.
I strongly recommend all of Hartmann's books, especially his "Hidden History" series.

He also presented a viable solution in a recent article: We Already Have the Law to Get Weapons of War Off Our Streets. [Read the entire article, including the insights on modern-day militias at the end!]

Thom's Hartmann Report has his Daily Take, and many very informative articles. He also has a live radio show 12-3pm ET (9am - 12pm PT) on YouTube, and podcasts.
