I guarantee that RFK Jr is only getting so much polling support right now because his name is Kennedy and folks are bored with Biden. Most people don't know who he is. Once the Democratic electorate finds out he's an anti-vax guy (and not just COVID vaccines, like an old school "vaccines cause autism" guy) and thinks Wi-Fi is unhealthy, among other nutty things, his support will plummet.

People aren't bored with Biden; they think the country is headed in the wrong direction.

Bill Maher has done a long interview with RFK that goes into a lot of vaccine detail. RFK's problem is that his views are very nuanced and look like 'nut job' opinions if you look at headlines that are easily manipulated. Maher even talks to him about this. How are you going to explain your position when you're given 90 seconds in a debate. RFK's answer is, "do you think Biden will debate me?". Maher laughed and said no. End of discussion. I think he's an interesting candidate but not a sophisticated politician. Or at least like Trump, he's not a sophisticated huckster.

Perhaps you can help explain his views on vaccines and autism.

I'd rather not listen to a whole 2-hour interview with a kook. Is this accurate as to his views?

Part of it. He goes into more detail. He's not a nut but his position is one that will make an uphill battle for him and not conducive to sound byte politics. He's basically got no chance.

Does he at any point refute his previous claims that vaccines cause autism? Because if that is still his current belief then that is enough for "nut" status IMO.

That's not even about soundbytes, that's a dangerously unscientific view on public health that has no place in the White House. I don't want a President who tells parents to not give their kids measles vaccines.

He's saying that there has been no explanation for the explosion of autism in his lifetime and that vaccines need a lot more study than they've been given. I think he blames the lack of closing in on the causes of autism and other afflictions on the power and money that the pharma companies wield. He and his family have taken many if not all the vaccines that we all have, including the COVID vaccines. He certainly has to fight the nut label and his background and the fact that none of his family supports him doesn't help his case. Going on these podcasts does help but most folks don't want to sit through 2 hours of explanation. Heck, I've only done this for a few candidates. What's sad to me is that Biden will get a free pass this time around. That may bite him when he has to debate the Republican candidate. It will be a circus if it's trump.

Robert De Niro made a move about vaccines and autism before the pandemic as his own kid has autism. But, the movie never played after he received a phone call.

I am a Bill Maher fan (and often categorize myself as a "Jerry Brown / Bill Maher Liberal" for people who need a sound byte explanation). However, I think he starts to veer towards Crazy Town on the health issues. I don't disagree with the direction he takes (diet and lifestyle), but he goes way too far with it.

Maybe when his show resumes (after the writers' strike), he will have RFK Jr on. I would invest that amount of time (15 minutes or so) into finding out more about Kennedy, but not more than that.

Don't have the data, but is there really an explosion of autism or is it that the medical community is now better at diagnosing the condition. Similar to depression, transgenderism, etc. Maybe not an explosion now but better ability to identify.

As far as I know, that's pretty much the reason. The autism spectrum has expanded a lot by definition in the last several decades, for various reasons (better medical understanding, parents learning their kids can get certain benefits with a diagnosis, etc.). In the past a lot wouldn't be diagnosed at all or would just be called "******ed" or something.

I forget, why do people from other countries laugh at us again?

I know, I know: "Just listen to the man talk for a few hours before writing him off!"

He says he took all the vaccines as a kid. He and his family took all the COVID vaccines.

This is what he looked like in his 50's. A guy in decent shape looking age appropriate. A decade plus later, he is a synthetic beast.

Apparently, the dude shoots up 'roids and (formerly) heroin, but not vaccinations recommended by mainstream medical professionals. Let's elect him President!

Hard to keep track of where this guy is coming from. Hey, lots of whack jobs in the world. Maybe I'm one of them. Thing is, I'm not running for President or even trying to be a national leader. If this guy's grandest aspiration was simply to have all the gravitas of his idol, movielover, he wouldn't even be on my radar.

I'm not particularly interested in RFK, Jr. If his last name wasn't Kennedy, no one would be. However, people who voted for a guy who can't tell the difference between Ukraine and Iraq probably shouldn't be deciding who is too dumb to vote for.

Remember this classic?

Well, apparently the current administration is defined by ignorance of the world as well.

Perhaps you are a credulous boomer rube and you just don't know it.

Perhaps I am!

Also, what's up with all those countries over there and birds? There's Turkey, there's U Crane... isn't one of the other ones in the Balkans called Rock Cornish Game Hen? No surprise there's that country named Hungry!

Amazing to me that anybody buys this guy's hypocritical bs. On top of that, any guy who looks like that at age 69 is obviously making it a (or the) main focus in his life: Dude, if you want to be any sort of national leader, spend some of that time exercising your brain.

His brain is in good shape. RFK Jr's latest book on Fauci is the #1 on AMAZON, and a NEW YORK TIMES, WALL STREET JOURNAL, USA TODAY and PUBLISHERS WEEKLY NATIONAL BESTSELLER.

It's a hormone replacement therapy that some older boomers take, not unlike estrogen replacement therapy for post-menopausal women.

Not quite the same thing as roids, which weightlifters and some athletes take to improve (cheat) on their athletic performance and looks, hence the stigma. Conflating roids with TRT is a bit of a hit job here.

Here's some info that apparently will surprise you:

1. He didn't actually write the book himself (which would take valuable time away from his obsession with his own body)
2. Bestseller: Yeah, he's one of the leading brands among conspiracy theorists, of whom there are more and more.
3. Those esteemed publications are not endorsing his ideas, just publicizing rankings of books sold.
