The riots in France deserves its own thread, especially since it seems like the legacy media is downplaying all the violence like they did during the violent riots here in 2020.

How would you have liked to have dropped bookoo bucks on a Parisian vacation only to find yourself in a war zone.*

*Yes, I realize this is a First World Problem and the comment lacks empathy.
I took this photo in July, 1976, when I was backpacking after graduation. There was a heatwave in Europe that summer. Lots of hazy photos.

You could still salvage a good vacation, provided you avoid the hotspots, though there are a lot of them right now.

The problem is that a lot of activities have been cancelled, concerts, events etc, and perhaps if it escalates, museums in Paris and the main cities. Public transit is only running till 9pm in Paris right now. And eventually, we might get martial law. But most small towns (especially upscale or touristy ones) and rural areas are largely unscathed.

Things will probably calm down eventually in august or September, but the underlying problems are not going to go away, things could get hairy next Summer for the Paris Olympics.

In this kinda the normal course of affairs? In my only visit to Paris, we had tank right outside our window. Smiling guy from the turret waived hi through our second story window. City was on lockdown as some idiot shot-up the Arc De Triomphe while we were in the air coming over, and there was an election a few days thereafter. When we talked to a few locals, they just shrugged and said they were kinda used to all the drama. I expect people in the City to have the same attitude in a little bit.

The Somali Institute of Chinese Studies? How do you guys find these impeccable bastions of breaking French news?

I didn't see any coverage on the Rwandan institute of Japanese studies, which is usually my first go-to news source for all things related to France.

Seriously though, this was on top of searches under "emeutes", French for riots. The Somalis are up to date on all things related to rhinos...

Also the coverage in France proper and in the French MSM has not been as extensive as the situation warrants, same pattern as with the Gilets Jaunes in 2018-20, but the damage in this series of riots has been order of magnitude higher and not as easy to brush off:
1,000+ burned buildings
5,000+ burned vehicles
250+ police stations attacked/burned
700+ injured police officers injured

Apparently the rhino scene is from Nepal, not Paris. We've had an elephant, a lion, a zebra and a giraffe sighting confirmed, but the rhino rampage is mere Mogadishu misinformation.
