The US legal system has now become something akin to Pakistan's, where the deep state jailed former PM Imran Khan, a popular figure in that country, who was favored to win the next elections, over flimsy charges.

Same. This seems like a Pyrrhic victory to me. If we are going to break norms by prosecuting a former president, I wish it had been something more unifying than this. We see countries where former presidents and other leaders are prosecuted as soon as the other party takes control. Granted that this was a state trial but there had been prosecutorial discretion against bringing charges against former presidents. And there have been some really bad presidents in our history. Feels a bit like eliminating the filibuster protection for non/supreme court federal judges that made it easy to do the same for the highest court. Resulted in a more political Supreme Court. Wondering what the next escalation will be assuming no one is going to be 100% compliant with all the rules and, even if I am 100% certain Trump is a criminal and I am a law and order guy, feel like we became less about law and order when Trump would not have been prosecuted for the same acts had he not won in 2016 and had he not decided to run in 2024 even if he is guilty.
