And guess who pays most of the taxes to fund the State?
Fact: The Top 1% paid 49.9% of the state personal income tax in 2021. That percentage fell to just 38.7% collected in 2023 when stocks fell in 2022. Hence, the state budget deficit.
Note: The top rate goes from 13.3% to 14.4% in 2024.
The new rate is the result of NO LIMIT on California's 1.1% employee payroll tax for State Disability Insurance.
Take the capital gains rate of 20% for higher income taxpayers and add the 3.8% net investment tax under Obamacare and you have 23.8%
Now add another 14.4% and Californians are paying more on capital gains than virtually ANYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD.
