The masterminds of 9/11 have struck a plea deal that takes the death penalty off the table, 21 years after capture, thus avoiding a lengthy trial.

Yes, that's the entirety of the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution. It outlines several fundamental rights for individuals accused of crimes, including:

1. The right to a speedy trial.
2. The right to a public trial.
3. The right to an impartial jury.
4. The right to be tried in the state and district where the crime was committed.
5. The right to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation.
6. The right to confront witnesses against them.
7. The right to obtain witnesses in their favor.
8. The right to the assistance of counsel for their defense.

These rights are designed to ensure fairness and due process in the criminal justice system.

I thought Khalid Sheik Mohammed was being tried under the military judicial system which doesn't have all the same procedures and constitutional protections as the Federal courts. The first part of your news story says the plea bargain was announced by the Defense Department. That's also why he and other 9/11 prisoners were held at Guantanamo Bay, which is (or was) a naval base.

I certainly don't understand legal stuff.
I just laughed when I read the article.
The dude was captured in 2003 and is only just now agreeing to a plea that will keep him from facing a life sentence?

I think it's a bit much. The concept of a speedy trial…. I think the American public have a right to a speedy trial, too - against Donald Trump. Throw that ******* away for 21 years, please. Don't let him golf, don't let him watch TV, don't let him run for the presidency. Treason. Life sentence. As in, off with his head. Old school, just like letting KSM rot in jail before any trial.
