Personally, I'd like to hear a lot of substance and hardly any supposed "zingers". These are two guys who could be at the top of their respective tickets (Vance still a bit young and inexperienced, but still), so impress me.

- 5 points for Walz if he mentions "cat ladies"
-10 if he uses the word "couch"

Accusations of "pet-eating immigrants" dogma is fair game. Can mention what Vance has said/written about Trump, but don't dwell on it too much.

- 10 for Vance if he attacks Waltz's resume, which is impeccable. Stick to the issues.

+ Tell your story, JD. Up until the end of your run for Senate, it was an impressive one.

Don't roll around in the mud together, please. Could possibly be a great debate!

I see this debate as a reverse of every tRump debate. tRump's opponent is always smarter than him (even when they are senile). tRump responds to every question posed or point made by the opponent by shouting some folksy emotionally appealing platitude that the common man listens to and says "Exactly!"

J.D. is probably smarter than Walz and as a lawyer will give a more intellectual sounding and organized response to a question or point made by Walz. Walz will counter that by shouting some folksy bullsh@it like Matt Foley while rolling around on the stage and the working class viewers will be screaming, "Hell yes! You just dunked on that p@ussy!"

*It will also help that Vance will be lying his @$$ off and regurgitating dirt stupid talking points that tRump insists he cover.

Tim Walz is a walking time bomb. Does JD know which buttons to push? Was Walz vetted by the Democrats?

It always amuses me to see Three O'Clock Charlie show up day after day posting exactly 5 times in 1-2 minutes then disappearing into the ether forever. What a sad existence.

Walz looks scared. She should have picked someone else. Cant watch anymore of this. Not saying Vance won but he looks more in control.

It's like a mediocre Deputy DA delivery a closing argument against a brilliant but wholly untruthful defense attorney.

*With no suggestion intended that Vance is brilliant but certainly that he is wholly untruthful, like tRump.

….and Meghan McCain's purported insight would have value if those were brains:

There is a lot of talk about Vance being some kind of polished barrister vs. Walz being a little out of his league in a formal debate, but I agree with Rachel that Walz "won the debate," though I disagree with her that Vance was the more "practiced, kind-of debate-style speaker."

I thought (yes, I am extremely biased for Harris-Walz and against Trump-Vance) that Walz not only won the debate substantively -- by a mile, compared to Vance not answering questions -- but also stylistically, frequently drawing on his experience as Governor to show how he focused on solving problems using common sense.

Some pro-Harris/Walz commentators complained that Walz was a little too cordial towards Vance, but ultimately this highlighted his personal decency and willingness to work "across the aisle" (again, to solve problems).

So, I'm probably in a very small minority, but I think tonight was a major victory for the Harris-Walz campaign.

Vance had it in the bag until he wouldn't state whether he would have certified the vote on Jan. 6 like Pence did so bravely in the face of a mob.

Vance is a syncophant Trump child

Full disclosure: I watched about 95% of the first half and only about 30% of the second half (and thus missed Vance's supposed worst moment, the Jan. 6th question).

Glad to hear some civil discourse!

Vance clearly outperformed general expectations. If this was the unofficial launching of his 2028 Presidential campaign, he did a pretty good job. He seemed poised and well-spoken.

Walz underperformed my high expectations (I have been a fan since before VP Harris chose him). He seemed nervous out of the gate and his responses often contained brief blank moments...

... I don't know what's up with the Dems flat-out not answering the questions (other side does it, too), but it's getting on my nerves. Walz's two responses to his China timeline were real low points... cringe-worthy.

Why can't the Dems articulate a successful answer to the "An abortion in the 9th month is okay?!?" question? That is just totally lame. I could fix that for them easily.

Walz's expressions and body language weren't impressive when Vance was talking.

Advantage JD Vance this evening (pending me seeing his J6 answer). Am I changing my vote? Of course not. Not even if he were on the top of the ticket. However, in the future, if he could break away from MAGA craziness and repackage himself as more of a moderate, I'd give him a long look (not gonna lie, I probably still wouldn't vote for him, but I'd consider it.).

I agree VP debates don't matter much, however, for this election, both sides are focusing on a small number of independents in battleground states, and this debate may have decided things for them.

Okay, but post-debate polling suggests that it was basically a wash, so I don't know how that's going to move things.

Yes, not much stood out except Walz's fumbling of his China visit statements and Vance not acknowledging the severity to Jan. 6th as well as saying that Trump saved ACA (lmao)
