What they're saying: At Trump's triumphant rally at New York's Madison Square Garden on Sunday, guest speaker Tucker Carlson captured the sort of conspiratorial thinking fostered by this bubble of hyper-confidence.

"Ten days from now ... It's going to be pretty hard to look at us and say, 'You know what? Kamala Harris, she got 85 million votes because she's just so impressive,' " Carlson said mockingly.
In Carlson's eyes, Trump is winning so comfortably and Harris is so unpopular that Democrats will not be able to "get away with" claiming they won the election like they did in 2020.

Zoom in: Trump himself has falsely claimed that the only way he could lose the 2024 election is if Democrats "cheat," ignoring polls that show a margin-of-error race in all seven battleground states.

"She's actually imploding, if you take a look, because look, I'm not supposed to say it, but we are leading by so much," Trump declared in Las Vegas last week."

Call me a snowflake, but I am so beyond anxious about this election (understatement of the year). Both the results and the consequences.

If Harris wins, Trump will swear he KNOWS it was stolen and his supporters have been so primed to believe this that there will be horrible acts of violence and sabotage and the most extreme elements of MAGA will feel justified to be their worst in office and in society. It will be a non-stop escalation of conspiracy and threats of civil war and we can't let this black woman have any power or success. Those who are on the fence of the fascist cult will further radicalize.

If Trump wins, MAGA will see this as total vindication for every hateful thing he has said or done and there will be unmitigated bullying, violence, and the installment of cruel loyalists throughout government. The propaganda machine will be entrenched and Project 2025 and Christian Nationalists will go unchecked in the destruction of democracy and the conversion of America to a theocratic oligarchy. The racists will set the policy and own the public square. The question then will become will there be an election in 2028 (a legitimate one or just a Putinesque show election?) and what becomes of the scientists, artists, intellectuals, and voices of political opposition? Are they prosecuted? Are they silenced? OR are they able to galvanize and toss the fascists out?

Ugliness either way because the azzholes have been inculcated, radicalized, empowered and armed. They are now free of public shaming and been told by their leader and their God that they are moral patriots even as they delight in attacking others, stealing others rights and pursuit of happiness, and defiling the core principles of the Constitution and their Bible.

1st paragraph…yeah, don't see it that way at all. The Right might feel vindicated about Lawfare, etc. the rest isn't happening. This is still a democracy with checks and balances. We will be fine, unless Trump pushes the Big Button.

If Trump wins Ds should really stop focusing on Trump and look in the mirror. This is the most winnable election ever. If Ds lose it…having a coup to take out a sitting president and replace him with a poor candidate because she checks certain boxes for Progressives…it'll go down in history as the most stupid move ever…if Ds can ever have the introspection to see it.
