Though I'm reluctant to take a great thread like this in a different direction, this name pronunciation thing has always left me wondering...

I'm not sure how you get "farv" from "Favre", but I guess it's because you can pronounce your own name any way you want, right? But how far can this be taken? As far as I know, there are no rules on this!

Let's say my last name is Smith. Can I choose to pronounce it "go****urself"? After all, it is my name! That's how I pronounce it!
