Trump is leading in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Henry Olsen is reporting that mail in ballots in Wisconsin (Milwaukee) and Pennsylvania (Philly) have been counted. So he does not see any likelihood that those urban centers will save Harris in those states.

He said there is a small chance that Detroit comes in to reverse the current result in Michigan. He doesn't think its is likely, but he said it is possible.

He also thinks Georgia is over but feels that press/networks are holding off in making the call because of the implication that the election will effectively be over.

It's past midnight eastern time, the AP hasn't called the race, it could be 2020 all over again.

Someone is dropping off ballots from somewhere. The polls are closed and no one is waiting in line.

I can't imagine living in a place surrounded by people who think it is a good idea to vote a twice-impeached criminal octogenarian into the highest office in the land.

Yes, we understand that's what many on the board believe. I'm saying in a national election where most people aren't political junkies like us on this thread it more or less comes down to my characterization

Did they see what he did to Roe v. Wade?

Did they see January 6th?

Aren't they tired of him being part of every news cycle for the last four years? Do people really want to see MORE of him? Why isn't there any Trump fatigue? I can't wait until he dies and I hope it is soon so that we never have to hear about him again.

We know what Trump did in office. Why not see what someone else (R or D) has to offer?

What about Trump appeals to low income uneducated white people and why are there so many of those people in America to begin with?
Here's my take: there's been kind of an anti-inbumbency wave across most of the liberal democracies in recent years and the Democrats this time just couldn't swim against that tide. Looked like it might happen because Trump is not a very popular figure, but not quite.

I suspect Biden or another Dem nominee probably would have gotten caught in the same wave, short of some kind of extraordinarily charismatic guy like Obama.

Totally. Agree. Country needs to change.

Donald Trump ain't going to be the one to drive change people want. He wants to take us backwards.

Maybe give the youngish woman a chance?

Thing is… like I said before… Kamala is too associated with Biden. When given a chance to say what she would do differently she said she couldn't think of a thing. That killed her campaign. Killed it.

That was her chance to talk about how she had all these great ideas to lower inflation and deal with illegal immigration and so on. The things people want the government to help with.

And on Israel/Gaza, too, she was too wishy washy and that has always been her problem.

She was my Senator here in California and I can't remember anything she did of note. No Feinstein for sure. I am not even really sure why Biden chose her as his VP. To appeal to black voters?

I think she is a lot more capable than she is given credit for but the criticism that she won't take a stance on complex issues is valid. Either you support political amnesty for everyone requesting it or you don't. You support Israel as a great ally of the US or you don't. She is so afraid to offend any constituents but never really figured out who hers were. A proper primary campaign would have helped refine her messaging on that regard.

Trump never built that wall. Mexico certainly didn't pay for it. It didn't matter. It was a powerful metaphor for a vision (a frightening one I might add) Trump had.

And am I the only one who feels that Trump has been in office for the last four years sort of directing his capos from prison? Sometimes I wondered where the hell our actual President (or Vice President) was to keep him in line. Biden's administration seemed mostly ineffectual like the Steward of Gondor.

We need a real leader. 80 year old Trump lining his pockets and paying retribution for personal slights ain't it.

In order to get Clyburn's support in the 2020 South Carolina primary, Biden promised and expressly announced that he would select a black female VP. That clinched the primary and overall nomination for him. At that point, it was either Kamala or Karen Bass - he picked Kamala.

For someone who has very strong political opinions, I find it very strange you don't know this.

And you're right, other than her pigmented lady parts, she did nothing to distinguish herself as a Senator or earn the VP nomination.

But why Kamala? Coming from California she didn't add anything to the ticket. Why not Stacey Abrams for example?

Watching MSNBC is pretty damn funny. Joy Reid playing the race card and insisting Kamala ran a flawless campaign. Then a segue into "we will count every vote."

Soft selling Kamala closing it down for the night and being too cowardly to make a statement herself. Now gloating over her win in NM despite Trump "gloating" he might expand the map.

They are blathering, but eventually NBC news and others will call Pennsylvania or Michigan or Wisconsin. And then they will have to start the 10 step program of grieving and acceptance.

I will take your word for it. She's just another recognizable name I threw out there. I won't pretend to know who else was considered or who would be better or worse.

The VP doesn't matter much. Trump's could have been anyone, probably even Harris if she would have accepted it.

Turnout is high. This is what people wanted.

We need to reckon with what is happening here: Trump is winning because he's improved his margins with various racial minorities (not winning them outright, but doing better). It's not enough to just complain about racism or whatever anymore.

Now I kind of do think a lot of this is Trump-specific. Not sure another Republican would be doing so well here. But he has as kind of weird charisma that just works.

How do you have a guy that lost the popular vote twice come back and win it after having done nothing but complain he was cheated for four years? And he is more popular than ever? Even people in his own party came out against him. Makes no sense.

Or is it just better to be a white male than a black woman in America? Because I think that plays a big part in why Latino men in particular turned away from her.

Dems need to stop trying to get too cute with their DEI politics. I think running women twice now has proven to be a losing proposition. Other women don't turn out for them and many men won't vote for them.

It does seem like he will win the popular vote as well.

Unbelievable. Did people just stay home or what? What has the turnout been?

I said it leading up to tonight - D's need to take a seriously hard look in the mirror. Trump is wildly popular with a segment of the population, but not 50% of it. What happened tonight is 15-20% of people decided D policies were worse than Trump's personality / behavior.
