If I can digress from the self-loathing just for a moment:

LOL, Trump's five minutes into his victory speech and he's already flaunting the fact that we've just reelected somebody who's off his freaking rocker: ("And I said to Elon... ")

Okay, back to the self-loathing: Democrats suck. I suck. VP Harris sucks. Educated people suck. Women suck. Our ideas and policies suck. California sucks. Gavin Newsom sucks. Climate change would suck, if it existed. Ukraine sucks. All government institutions suck. The media sucks. Foreigners suck. Biden would suck, if only he were young enough to. America the garbage can sucks.

Am I leaving anything/anybody out? No doubt. I am. I suck that way...

I try never to watch Trump - haven't in years - so what did he say?

Typical Trump 2024 speech: Started out almost halfway statesman-like, then veered off into free association rambling. Went on and on about Elon and his rocket. (He's already courting the oligarchs who are richer than he is.)

I didn't vote for Trump, as he is a scumbag. But I didn't vote for Harris, either, an incredibly weak candidate and a sl ut to match. As someone who spends much time in SF, I know her resume, and it is empty.

Hey Democrats:

- Maybe Americans see the stupidity in making stealing up to $1,000 a misdemeanor.

- Maybe Americans noticed that the new policies that Harris touted as her own were a train wreck, such as idiotic rent control (99% of economists will tell you it's a terrible idea, even economists at Berkeley) and price controls.

- Maybe Americans see the stupidity in suggesting blacks deserve millions of dollars each in reparations.

- Maybe Americans saw and see the stupidity of "defund the police."

- Maybe Americans (including non whites) are tired of the constant focus on race.

- Maybe Americans see how stupid many left-leaning ideas are, such as "it's racist to enforce the law." Maybe Americans realize why a higher percentage of people being pulled over are non-white, and it has little to do with hard-working police forces that couldn't even see the skin color of the driver when they initiated the stop. This is why BART is doomed... its board has been, and will continue to be, controlled by Progressive fools like Lateefah Simon (who is moving up the political ladder BECAUSE she is blind and black...it certainly can't be because of her role in driving BART into the gutter...I mean, these people FOUGHT HARD against improved fare gates. SMH).

The one terrific thing about tonight is that the Progressive movement, and all of their idiotic ideas, is dead.

It's a shame that the Democrats failed to come up with a talented, qualified candidate, because they could have had my vote. Oh well.

I hope in four years we get a respectable, talented individual to vote for. But I'm not holding my breath.

Chapman, I'm so glad you've become "one of us". We forgive you for what you said about us like Trump forgave Kevin McCarthy, Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham.

I'm thinking of having some "Proud to be a loser!" t-shirts made up, but I guess I won't be able to include a link for everybody to buy them at the bottom of my posts, lol. So PM me.

Why the hell didn't she come out and address the crowd at HU instead of sending that guy out? She could've just thanked everybody and said that she was still hopeful that enough votes would fall into place (it was still possible, at that point).

I felt like seeing if I could take my vote back.

Anyway, even though I don't like that it helped Trump, some de-polarization along racial lines in the electorate might actually be a positive going forward. Politics was too stratified along these lines; maybe people can wake up and realize that demographics are not the be-all, end-all of winning elections.

Unbelievable. Did people just stay home or what? What has the turnout been?

Turnout is high. This is what people wanted.

We need to reckon with what is happening here: Trump is winning because he's improved his margins with various racial minorities (not winning them outright, but doing better). It's not enough to just complain about racism or whatever anymore.

Now I kind of do think a lot of this is Trump-specific. Not sure another Republican would be doing so well here. But he has as kind of weird charisma that just works.

How do you have a guy that lost the popular vote twice come back and win it after having done nothing but complain he was cheated for four years? And he is more popular than ever? Even people in his own party came out against him. Makes no sense.

I said it leading up to tonight - D's need to take a seriously hard look in the mirror. Trump is wildly popular with a segment of the population, but not 50% of it. What happened tonight is 15-20% of people decided D policies were worse than Trump's personality / behavior.

Agreed it was the anti-establishment vote from people who have a low propensity to vote.
They don't care about Jan. 6th or DC in general because all they see is Govt. interfering with their lives.
The Trump Campaign connected with those voters.

I am interested to see final results. This morning it looks like R's may not win all those Senate seats. Election Rights provisions passed in 7(?) states. In my region the 2 competitive House races went D. R's may barely keep the House. It is starting to look like Democracy worked.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this all comes out in the wash.
My guess is that either way, Trump is going to pump-out a ton of Executive Orders to send a "message" about who's in charge, rather than work with both parties to show unity.

On another note, I can't even begin to imagine what his Cabinet is going to look like.

He had an awful lot of skilled businessman in his cabinet during his first term. People like Rex Tillerson and Gary Cohn, but that didn't last long. Aside from a handful of Wall Street Bankers that will drive a Wall Street agenda with less regulation, I just can't see anyone else being appointed by him aside from campaign cronies of his.
