Every now and then I post light-hearted OT threads. They get little response. Others do the same.

It seems that what most people want to do is rant back and forth about topics that heighten their anxiety. Is this a form of self-soothing?

If so, OT could be renamed the SS board.

It's shocking how bad the average youtube channel is, streamers like "Mr Beast" are pushed by the YT algorithm. They are the online equivalent of McDonalds.

Yes, but there are many EXCELLENT resources available. I am taking courses in solar and electrical out of personal interest and augmenting that with YouTube lectures, installation videos and new product offering content, along with ChatGPT conversations for Q&A.

There's so much to learn in the world, so little time. YouTube is really an incredible modern technology.

One must be very cautious and astute to not get dragged down the rabbit role to the lowest common denominator.

I have a non-blood relative who makes his living posting sasquatch stuff. It's mind boggling to me how people are into that.

Maybe to them it's "entertainment", like me perusing game winners.

I agree, that ball-drop video is likely AI. I can't fathom the number of "takes" required to hit it, nor the damage incurred and permission slip required to do so.

True, and, back to the fun… it IS fun to remark in a short quip how the SS Board could either stand for:

Self Soothing, or
"Schutzstaffel"

… which is German for "Protection Squadron". The SS was originally formed in 1925 as a personal bodyguard unit for Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.
