It is my understanding that he was moral, ethical, honest, had integrity and lived his life by a Code of Honor. In other words, politics was the wrong calling for him.

Only 2 people in this video from December 1973 are still alive, including Gene Shalit, who turns 99 in March.

Those presidents living between 1820 and 1920 were a bunch of slackers. Possibly not Hoover, but he was forever tainted by his association with the Furd.

RIP Jimmy Carter. But folks, seriously, when concordtom improved all of our lives by creating the Obituaries thread, I don't believe he put an exception for former Presidents in there. C'MON, PEOPLE: RULES ARE RULES. WE'RE BETTER THAN THIS!!!

The only reason concordtom hasn't laid down the law here -- so far -- is that he is a gracious gentleman.

You "think". You "think"?!? Another bylaw that concordtom did not include when creating the Obituaries thread out of the goodness of his heart is that random posters (even legendary ones, such as yourself) could make a separate thread for an obituary when they think it is deserved.

Need I remind you that, in today's America, we have a multi-multi-billionaire industrialist (who is about to have full White House access) who can do all the thinking for us? I propose that there be only two people on the face of the earth who can grant Obituaries thread exceptions: Obituaries Thread Creator concordtom and President-Elect Musk.

I'm actually surprised about that statement when you consider Carter opined Trump was an illegitimate President in 2016 because of Russian interference and he said it would be a disaster if Trump was re-elected. Is Trump evolving?

Nice sentiments, but there is a zero percent chance that Donald Trump actually wrote that himself.

I spent most of 2024 (From February until 2 days before Election Day) listening to the audiobook of this book.

It's really long. It delves into the years of 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1976 in incredible detail, not just the politics, but the pop culture.

And it really delves into Jimmy Carter's rise (as well as Reagan's). It's part of a trilogy of books. And I will read the next one in the new year.

I'm in full agreement with you. There is no way Trump could have written that without inserting a few of his personal grievances. He's got such a victim's mentality.

Ct only just now seeing.

To be fair, I had said that if Trump died, he could get his own thread.
And there was someone else who died a month or two or three ago who got their own thread and I gave my blessing.

Actors and singers? No.

Rules are rules. A man of humility such as yourself needs good citizen-soldiers -- such as myself, dare I say? -- to help maintain order. Unless somebody is wearing the mod badge, they gotta follow the rules, which have been created for our own good. All obituaries belong in the Obituaries thread (though news of the death may be reported in the "Breaking News" thread).

The thing that gets me about trumps statement is not that he flipped from negative to positive on Jimmy Carter, it's that he, again(!), makes it all about him. What a ******* narcissist!

Quote:

Trump Pulls a 180 on Jimmy Carter After His Death

President-elect Donald Trump shared a surprisingly sentimental tribute to former President Jimmy Carter after his passing Sunday at 100just two months after mocking his predecessor at a campaign stop in Wisconsin.

Taking to Truth Social, Trump wrote: "I just heard of the news about the passing of President Jimmy Carter. Those of us who have been fortunate to have served as President understand this is a very exclusive club, and only we can relate to the enormous responsibility of leading the Greatest Nation in History.

"The challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a pivotal time for our country and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude," he continued.

"Melania and I are thinking warmly of the Carter Family and their loved ones during this difficult time. We urge everyone to keep them in their hearts and prayers."

He later added in a second post: "President Jimmy Carter is dead at 100 years of age. While I strongly disagreed with him philosophically and politically, I also realized that he truly loved and respected our Country, and all it stands for."

"He worked hard to make America a better place, and for that I give him my highest respect," Trump added. "He was a truly good man and, of course, will be greatly missed. He was also very consequential, far more than most Presidents, after he left the Oval Office. Warmest condolences from Melania and I to his wonderful family!"

" While his presidency was remembered more for its failures than for its successes, his post-presidency was seen by many as a model for future chief executives. Rather than vanish from view or focus on moneymaking, he established the Carter Center to promote peace, combat disease and tackle social inequality. He transformed himself into a freelance diplomat traveling the globe, sometimes irritating his successors but earning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002."

I think a man should be free to live life as he chooses.
Retire into nothingness, abdicate the throne, whatever.

And while Bush has talent which I admire, he's a total zero politically!!!

I was a kid when Nixon resigned. My mom forced me to be home in time to watch the resignation because it was historic. I remember watching it but was too young to really understand it.

I was still a kid when we experienced the Carter years. It was easy to understand things like only being able to get gas on alternating days based on your license plate number. But it was unusual to be that young and actually sense the mood of the country was **** and how much people were struggling, then to sense that mood switch again with Reagan.
