Synopsis of his book:

"Stephen Marche's 2022 book, The Next Civil War, explores the alarming possibility of civil war in modern America. It uses detailed evidence and projections to argue that this risk is more significant than many believe.

https://www.amazon.com/Next-Civil-War-Dispatches-American/dp/B09B4D1V85/

Marche's motivation stemmed from his experience covering the 2016 Trump inauguration, where he observed a heightened sense of hostility and chaos.

Premise of the Book:

The U.S. is described as being on a trajectory toward collapse, based on patterns historically associated with nations experiencing civil conflict. This includes inequality, political paralysis, distrust in institutions, environmental stressors, and demographic changes.

Factors Driving Instability:

Economic Inequality: Both vertical (wealth disparities) and horizontal (regional and social inequalities) inequalities are creating unresolved tensions.
Hyper-Partisanship: Increasing political polarization exacerbates societal divisions.
Environmental and Demographic Shifts:
Environmental degradation acts as a "threat multiplier."
The anticipated transition to a majority-minority population by 2040 often leads to increased tension globally.
Institutional Distrust: Trust in Congress, media, religion, and other institutions has significantly eroded over decades.

2008 as a Turning Point: The financial crisis marked the beginning of rapid instability, including the collapse of the middle-class "American Dream."
Role of Social Media:

Marche describes social media as a "threat multiplier," amplifying divisions and misinformation. While not the root cause, it accelerates existing tensions by undermining solidarity and factual agreement.
Modern Civil War Characteristics:

Unlike the Civil War of 18611865, future conflict would not involve traditional battle lines (e.g., North vs. South). Instead, it might manifest as localized, fragmented violencesuch as terrorism, militia actions, and societal breakdown.

Marche highlights that while predictive models can outline how collapse might unfold, the experience of widespread civil unrest is brutal, unpredictable, and devastating.

Call to Awareness:

Marche emphasizes that while the indicators of collapse are clear (to experts and through historical patterns), the public remains largely unprepared for the realities of such a scenario.
He urges acknowledgment of the risks and proactive efforts to avoid escalating tensions.

Conclusion:

The book is not a deterministic prediction but a projection based on observable trends. Marche stresses that civil war is the worst possible outcome and advocates for finding alternative paths to address the underlying issues driving societal fractures."

The wealth class would never let it get that far. It would disrupt profits. We'll see a police state/martial law before "civil war" ever happens.

There is a "civil war" industry but the fact is- outside of the usual marginal weirdos- nobody cares enough to fight for either side of this divide.

It's always amazes me when people talk about the "loss of democracy" that they don't realize that a) it's been lost for a while and b) the most obvious problem is to get rid of the two parties- one, rapacious capitalism and the other, rapacious capitalism with a smiley face

The "loss of democracy" talk is coordinated messaging coming from the corporate media and the Democratic Party after January 6, 2021 when citizens came to DC to protest the stolen 2020 election.

How about a coordinated message by the Putin88's of the world from Mother Russia to try and sow the seeds of discord in American society?

Anyone who suggests Fox News spreads propaganda on its local outlets is a knave and a churl and certainly no friend of mine.

Good timing. I guess Hakeem Jeffries is the face of the Democratic Party now. He's calling for violence to fight against any imaginary grievances the party might have.

Why look to Russia when we have Democratic politicians and media trying to incite violence against Americans?

Democrat politicians are much better than the Russians at this, almost as good as they are at picking stocks.

Lincoln should have let Uncle Billy finish the job and permanently take out the trash….or at a minimum go down there and thin the herd a smidge every time the Klan acted up. Missed opportunity.

Statistically, that would make sense, as there are move whites than blacks.

But I suppose you'll end up with a racist conclusion, so, no thanks.

Wouldn't it make sense then that more blacks would be killed?
