Eastern Oregon Bear said:I have NEVER used Signal at my federal job (or privately either). Nobody I work with has EVER used Signal in an official capacity. We have been specifically told for years to NEVER use a messenger app for official business. As Signal messages disappear after a short time, Signal violates the record keeping requirements for having a record of actions taken and the discussions ahead of time.MinotStateBeav said:That may be true, but every federal staffer and congress person is using it right now.HearstMining said:Saying that Signal was secure in 2017 is ancient history in the tech world. Another cool story.
Congress does NOT USE SIGNAL.
In fact, a Congressman said on CNN yesterday that the reason you never hear about any of these kinds of "screw-ups" is because Congress is only able to use a SCIF.
Nothing else.

How secure and private is Signal
When it comes to security, the Signal messaging protocol is generally considered to be the most secure messaging protocol available. It is so good that many other messaging products, including Facebook Messenger, Skype, and WhatsApp, claim to have adopted the protocol for use in their own products.
When it comes to privacy, Signal is also a winner. As we discussed earlier, Signal only records three bits of information about their users. This is far less information than other services collect.
And you can take the privacy protections even one step further. This article has detailed instructions for registering a Signal account without disclosing your personal phone number.
