Honestly we are Way down the rabbit hole and people that care (and I know that Hawaii Bear and others do) about this country you should care when the President calls for the military to use cities as "training grounds" and to "fight the enemy within".

I realize we are not supposed to call it fascism but what the F should we be calling THAT!!???!!!!

MAGA folks can state that we are very close to a red line here. Contact your congressman. State it in threads on X. Use your platform with other conservatives.

It is one thing (which I think is a subject for legitimate debate) to deploy force to protect ICE facilities when local law enforcement won't try to figure out a way to balance peaceful protest with legitimate and legal activities. But sending active duty military into cities for "training grounds" and identifying law enforcement as a "prime mission" of US military should be beyond the pale for every American. We fought a revolutionary war over this.

You heard about Hegseth calling in 800 top military leaders. One star generals and above.

This is incredibly dangerous leadership.
Or bluster.
Time will tell.

Watch this, and there's obviously tons to read about it.

I am certain I've never heard a more aggressive military speech in the history of the US military industrial complex in my life.
He says we can win any and all military conflict.

Apparently he never heard of MAD. And he's missing a very important possibility.

And what's he going to do if a random bomb goes off in Times Square?

Good luck.
All this does is heighten tensions and trigger fingers.

Mark this speech in history.
For when things flare, this should be replayed and reflected upon.

In the apocalyptic battle
between the "children of light" and the "children of darkness" the end justifies the means so there is no line Trump can cross that can be objectionable.

I'm listening to this 45 minute speech , almost done. There was an early hoot of excitement but then it fell silent as he continued.

And he asked the assembled. "If this makes you feel uncomfortable, then please do the right thing and retire! But I know most of you" are fired up.

Honestly, there is some rationality to some of what he says. Toughen up and be fit. But 98% of it is incredibly horrifying. This is the type of leadership of madmen. We are not at war. But it sounds as if they have something planned.

The final 20 seconds is interesting as he leaves the stage. He says "move out and draw fire" (that's ominous), that we'll be hearing from Trump shortly. Final words looking directly into camera: "Because WE are the War Department."
Everyone is ordered to stand at attention. No applause. Serious Obedience!

Scary ****, man.

Actually the fact they did not applaud is the ONLY good thing. The norm of being "apolitical" is at least getting a bit of respect - uniform military is prohibited from applauding a speech by pols.

True.

All Trump had to do was conduct a video-conference call with his Generals.
This was so "over the top" that it certainly smells like a Dictatorship.

Not directed at me but I think Andy Besher (sp) from Kentucky is about ideal. He is cut from the cloth of Carter and Clinton and that has been the road to success for the party (outside of Obama who was a once in a century skill politician). I hate to say it but I am near certain that to win in the electoral college a Dem must wear his (and yes a man) faith on his sleave and possibly pick up a border/southern state.

I read Trump's speech. He went on a stream of consciousness riff on Biden, the autopen, tariffs, Gulf of America, the Nobel Peace Prize (he really doesn't want it. Sure), going to war against the enemy within our nation, fake news, DEI, unfair college admission, the Supreme Court, and how Obama bops down stairs.

I'm not fan at all of Hegseth, but I thought it was a pretty good speech. He's a good speaker; was he using a teleprompter?

I took issue with 1 1/2 of his points:

1. Did he really say/imply that hazing is okay? That needs to be qualified.

1/2. How much of the promotions/staffing is based on reaching for diversity? If it's a lot, as he implied, I'm not sure I agree with that.

Good discussion question: Should physical training standards for women in combat be lower than for men? I'm not sure I see a problem with his point there.

Disagree: If a "warrior" (as he calls them) meets standards, I could give a crap if they identify as one of the letters in LGBTQIS+

Not sure: the new Department of War name. Sounds like macho posturing. Does it matter? Does it make us sound too aggressive? I guess it's just more of Trump's semantics (see "Gulf of America").

I admire the peaceful tone of your post.

I'm surprised you watched the whole thing. I wouldn't have if you didn't call my attention to it. When it comes to public speaking Trump is no Obama. At least he loves America and didn't try to " fundamentally change it" with his weaponization of words, anti-constitutional views and starting (or at least massively accelerating) the use of propaganda on American citizens.

I do not agree with using the military against civilians. Firefighters have been assassinated although I don't think on ladders.

The actions are legal. Part of the army oath is "all enemies foreign and domestic." Antifa is officially a terrorist organization. Ice agents deserve protection from massive numbers of radical left crazies. There are enemies within.

The training grounds comment was odd but true. Any time you are doing stuff it is a time to learn.

Spit is battery so they should be able to defend themselves

Fascist? If he sends army to kill key opponents like all the sick politicians and media figures praising political murder then 100% that would be fascist without a doubt. Sending the Army to back up police is not fascist. The are cleaning out terrorists and career criminals.

Are you opposed to the DC cleanup? Even the left Mayor publicly thanked Trump (or was I misled?)

55% of far left want Trump assassinated. That number seems close to the sentiment here. CT, SB, DW for sure…I'm pretty sure Dajo and bearister. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about any individual.

Fascism is killing a peaceful debator.
Fascism is calling everybody else a fascist right after your fascist shooter kills him intentionally putting targets on everybody.
25% of far left think political violence is good. There will be more shooters. Their intent is murderous. You are in denial if you can't see that

Hillary said MAGA needs to be reprogrammed and dajo said she is correct.

It's embarrassing that you all think MAGA are all racist and other horrible things. Majority of MAGA are constitutionalists. We want safety, transparency, only LEGAL immigration. Common sense stuff. We see through the BS weaponization of words that brainwashed liberals think are core human rights worth destroying the country for.

If Harris won do you have any doubt that Trump, Musk and all prominent conservatives would be in jail or dead now? Do you have any doubt that all media would mirror wikipedias list of banned sources? Any doubt that we would be like the UK getting jailed for posts that are anything but radical left?

Thank god Trump won. If he turns out to be as bad as you all believe then we were all fu@@ed anyways.

From a public speaking standpoint, it was an AMAZING speech!! Probably the best I've ever seen - or at least can recall at this moment. I think I saw the teleprompter things up by the podium, but he left that immediately and walked back and forth, engaging the audience visually.

From a content standpoint, it was also AMAZING - AMAZINGLY HORRID!!

Let's get a transcript and actually digest what was said, rather than be mesmerized by the smooth presentation.

" as history teaches us, the only people who actually deserve peace are those who are willing to wage war to defend it."

Uh, that's a philosophical assertion which can be challenged! I understand what he's saying, but his phraseology, his stance, was aggressive the entire speech. Elsewhere he says we are no longer "defensive" but we are on the front foot of war. Let me find those moments.
….

pacifism is so naive and dangerous

Uh, sorry. Pacifism has its place in international politics. There are times to stand down. Instead, he used the word "crush" their enemies. The guy's stance is one of a man on a wall with a gun ready to fire at anything that moves. That's dangerous!

Should our enemies choose foolishly to challenge us, they will be crushed by the violence, precision and ferocity of the War Department. In other words, to our enemies, FAFO.

Lock this guy in a closet and only bring him out onto the battlefield when William Wallace is ready to attack. He is not your peacemaker. He is your savage ready to fight unabandoned to the death. Psycho.

In an era of WMD, pacifism is a tool to survival.
In an era of radicalism, fanaticism, suicide bombers and absolutism, this is a path to Doomsday.

There is a place for Hegseth within the military ranks. It is NOT in leadership or politics. He would likely be killed in my front lines real quick. Tip of the spear, not making decisions.

Overseas Military Setbacks

2004 - 2021: Afghanistan War: Despite two decades of effort, the Taliban regained control in 2021, marking a strategic failure.
2012: Benghazi Attack: Militants attacked U.S. diplomatic and CIA compounds in Libya, killing four Americans including Ambassador Chris Stevens.
2024: Houthi Attacks in Gulf of Aden: Yemen-based Houthis launched attacks on U.S. assets in the region.
2013: Boston Marathon Bombing: Killed 3 and injured hundreds.

Cyber and Intelligence Breaches

2015: OPM Data Breach: Chinese hackers stole sensitive data on over 22 million federal employees.
2020: SolarWinds Hack: A massive cyber-espionage campaign attributed to Russian actors infiltrated U.S. government networks.

Pre 9/11:

Beirut Barracks Bombing (1983)

Two truck bombs struck U.S. and French military barracks in Beirut.
Killed 241 U.S. service members, mostly Marines.
Perpetrated by Islamic Jihad (linked to Hezbollah and Iran).
Led to U.S. withdrawal from Lebanon.

USS Cole Bombing (2000)

Suicide bombers in a small boat attacked the destroyer while refueling in Yemen.
17 sailors killed, 39 injured.
Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility.

U.S. Embassy Bombings Kenya & Tanzania (1998)

Coordinated truck bombings killed 224 people, including 12 Americans.
Over 4,000 injured.
Marked Al-Qaeda's emergence as a global threat.

Khobar Towers Bombing Saudi Arabia (1996)

Truck bomb targeted U.S. Air Force housing.
19 U.S. airmen killed, hundreds wounded.
Blamed on Hezbollah Al-Hejaz, with suspected Iranian backing.

Pan Am Flight 103 Lockerbie Bombing (1988)

Bomb exploded over Scotland, killing 270 people, including 189 Americans.
Libyan agents later held responsible.

Iran Hostage Crisis (19791981)

52 American diplomats and citizens held hostage for 444 days.
U.S. military rescue attempt (Operation Eagle Claw) failed disastrously.

Can anyone here say with confidence that a secret dirty bomb or worse will not just suddenly and randomly explode in a US city?

I think it's merely a matter of time!

And what will Hegseth do? Vaporize a city of 1M? What will that accomplish? Permission for like-kind retaliation? FAFO.

That is not correct. You left out the key object in the oath. Project the CONSTITUTION from all enemies foreign and domestic.

This is really key and I would argue foundational to the US system of government (and our history). Thus the army being used for domestic law enforcement is really problematic. While crime is BAD it isn't a threat to the constitution (in most cases).

I really would hope you would understand why that part of the oath is critical and rethrink some of what you wrote.
