I am (and have been) your volunteer OT Moderator. I asked to remain anonymous for a variety of reasons. If that offends any of you...I apologize. If you think I was playing favorites...I give you my word that I did my level best to treat everyone equally. I have now decided to come out of the Moderator closet and expose myself to all of you. With that decision comes some info that I need to share

It is my intent to spend less time on the OT board. That means I will not see and will not act on rules violations on my own. You must flag things. A post comes to me if it has been flagged 2 times. If I see it in my Moderator 'in box" I will deal with it.

A few general words about being a Moderator on the OT board.... The idea here is that Moderation should generally be light-handed and that Cal alums should be able to self regulate. I have given people a long rope. I have edited numerous messages and given multiple warnings, then small time outs, then longer time outs then (in a very small number of cases) banned people permanently. Think about that for a moment. Grown adults - Cal Alums - have repeatedly needed incremental corrective action. We are better than this. I encourage everyone to revisit the board rules and Greg's note about shutting the OT board down, and to adjust your behavior accordingly.

Anyways, that's funny!

But not what I wanted to say. What I want to say is THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!
I think you did a good job.
Hopefully we get someone new who allows a good bit of jocularity while wiping away the really bad stuff.

A couple suggestions for the role going forward.

1) warnings and guidance before suspensions. Like, sometimes CHP just parks cars on the side of the freeway to remind people they are being watched and that there are rules to the roadways.

2) figure out how to beat VPN's and multiple signons. I suspect there are a couple of demented individuals with 5+ signons who muck it up for everyone.

I'm sure you felt you were being even and fair handed, but I see time outs and bans being handed out to left wingers (who probably mostly deserved it) while similar posters from the right wing perspective go unpunished. You see things from the right wing side, surprise, surprise. To be fair, I have always felt you were a principled and consistent conservative voice and I respect that. I guess I'll stop blaming BearGreg for the disciplinary actions.

Overall, I do appreciate the time and effort you put in to trying to keep some order around here.

Thank you for the kind words. I am not leaving the post. I am happy to help but I will be doing the job differently going forward - everyone needs to lean into the flag system to get OT Moderation.

This will spawn hyper flagging.
The moderator will spend more time responding to complaints.

Maybe give people 1 flag per month, like the NFL gives 1 challenge per game, unless successful and they keep it.

OK, you admit there was nothing wrong with what I posted and that you had a 2 day time out (at most).

I believe it was 48 hours, and it seemed like an eternity. There were so many posts blaming whitey and/or Wilcox for everything wrong in the world, and I could not respond to them. It was aggravating!
