I went to see "The Last Class" last night at Zellerbach Hall. It was a special screening, featuring a sit down chat between Professor Reich and local comedian W Kamau Bell afterwards. I would describe it as heartwarming, nostalgic, uplifting, and inspiring. It was also a call to activism, as Prof. Reich has taken a lead role in commenting the politics of the day.
I went with a long time friend. (We've known each other since 7th grade, and she would have been my classmate at Cal if I'd graduated on time.) We stopped at Yogurt Park afterwards. YP is now 48 years old, and the young lady who served us was astounded when we told her we were in school when it opened. In fact, my friend got to know the owner, since she worked the Merchant Window at the Bank of America around the corner.
Go see this film. It's a really fascinating view of how Prof. Reich approached teaching his class "Wealth and Pooverty." The background scenes shot around campus are great, too.
