I'm 3/4 the way through Jake Tapper Original Sin audiobook.
It's a horror show revisiting Biden's decline and the attempts to look beyond it because he was still better than the alternative. The problem for people like Karine Jean-Pierre and other Biden confidants is they can't admit what everyone knows -- he was in severe cognitive decline -- because they constantly denied it and that' be a confession of lying to the country.

So they have to maintain this charade: https://t.co/1Cm6PzOqXO
Joe Biden made a huge F'ing mistake.
He said he'd be a TRANSITIONAL PRESIDENT.
His ego got in the way. His legacy is FOREVER tarnished!!!!
It was immediately tarnished w the disastrous Afghanistan pullout. He was always known for being dim, and had one primary benefactor.
Acting POTUS Dr. Jill liked the perks, as did the administrative state.
I certainly agree with anybody who claims that Biden should have stuck to one term.
Most Democrats thought otherwise. Biden swept the 2024 Democratic primaries but was left off the general election ballot.
I think a lot of Dems would have preferred that Biden had stuck to one term. Admittedly, some of that might be 20/20 hindsight. There were two factors at play:
- it's pretty tough to tell a sitting President that his time is over and Jill and his handlers didn't do him or the country any favors
- his general strength and mental acuity were dropping rapidly during the second half of his term... somehow, he pulled off a pretty decent State of the Union speech in 2024 which reassured people (falsely). I read the Tapper book: Biden in June of 2024 was significantly down from Biden in June of 2023
Yep.
And for that, he'll go down as a loser.
Yes, but it's sort of too bad: three good years, one lousy year (Who else can say they had 3 good years as POTUS?)
