I loved it. One of the best movies I have seen for a LONG time if how I judge that is a movie that keeps me thinking and, during it, complete invested and engrossed.
Mild Spoiler. How realistic did people people find it?
1) I thought which I questioned was the President unable to directly speak to the Russian Foreign Minister. In an era of crisis this feels like it would be an imperative.
2) I think she got a big "meta" point wrong. The ENTIRE purpose of the triad (and the Chinese and Russian triads) is to make "first strike" thinking dumb. It was a plot device to suggest that we could do that (and thus the Russians and Chinese fears of first strike. The entire purpose of the triad is to provide the US second strike survivability, making sure our adversaries see no value in trying to take actions that would force our hand.
3) I DID like the idea of the North Korean's suspected motivations, taking out Chicago to then force negotiations after they proved they had SLMB capacity and could destroy even more cities even they were reduced to glowing ash.
I would love to read someone in Security studies on the film and see what I am missing in the above.
