Jimmy Carter, thumbs up.
George Bush, what the hell is he doing?

You'd think that people interested in serving their country would find ways to be involved even after their presidency.

Or was it just all about obtaining the power and the status and you weren't really interested in the Service part of the job?

Maybe we should promote executives of NGO's. They are more likely to be built of The Right Stuff.

Obama is the only president who lived in DC after his presidency ended.

Was he serving a third term through Biden?

Yes.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/bush-says-behaved-hell-lot-005925944.html

Former President George W. Bush said Monday that he would have "behaved a hell of a lot better in college" if he had believed he'd be a public servant.

"Mr. President, Eli and I followed our father into the family business, becoming quarterbacks, you followed your father into the family business too, becoming the most powerful person in the world," NFL star Peyton Manning said to Bush on ESPN's "ManningCast."

"I'm not going to say which is more impressive, but Mr. President, when you were growing up, did you think you would go into public service?" he added.

"No," Bush replied. "I'd've behaved a hell of a lot better in college."

Bush dealt with alcohol abuse for years, but he recounted the assistance of the late Rev. Billy Graham in stopping drinking in a 2018 opinion piece.

"God's work within me began in earnest with Billy's outreach," Bush said in a Wall Street Journal piece. "His care and his teachings were the real beginning of my faith walk and the start of the end of my drinking. I couldn't have given up alcohol on my own."

"But in 1986, at 40, I finally found the strength to quit," he continued. "That strength came from love I had felt from my earliest days and from faith I didn't fully discover until my later years."

I am not sure Bush every really had the public service bug like his dad -- sorta the kid that gets pushed into the family business where his heart wasn't in it. He is in his retirement and painting. Good for him.

I think it is a weird job. TOo much visibility and you cast some sort of shadow on the office of the current guy. A LOT of our former presidents cared about that norm. _IF_ Trump survives I totally expect him to violate that norm as well because the man can not stand not being in the spotlight. It is pathalogical.

Kind of odd to one day be the most powerful person and then be t day run into seclusion. I get it if you're old like Biden but Jr was still young enough.

Tells me he didn't want to do anything for the country. The ride up was great because it fed his ego - he wasn't truly interested in the service part of things.

I can not imagine what it is like to be the Grandson of a family like the Bushes. Essentially as close to royalty (along with the Kennedys) that we have and a core difference is that the Bush $$$ didn't have the whole bootlegger thing to help make it easier to be the black sheep. Basically from toddlerhood told your destiny in life is public service - but not like normal people (firefighters, cops, teachers) but to be in places of power.

I find it slightly interesting that generation number 4 seems to be breaking away - though if I recall Jeb's kid ran for Congress/place of power in Florida. Not sure he has survived (politically) the maga revolt.

Obama living good in DC!

According to The Washington Post, the price tag makes the Obamas' new home the second-most expensive in the neighborhood. Jeff Bezos' $23 million mansion is No. 1.

Located just two miles from the White House, the Obamas' new 8,200-square-foot house has nine bedrooms and 8 bathrooms plenty of space for the former first family and members of the Deep State.

The place off Mass Ave near Embassy row?
Fantastic location! Used to drive by it all the time.

This was my first view of DC

Here's the daytime with a different lens.

If your argumentation made half as much sense as Obama's you might be able to earn a tenth of as much money as him. And then maybe you could afford a decent home for yourself, too!

But fear not, Obama has worked his entire adult life to try and figure out how to make life better for you. And he's gonna KEEP trying to. Even if you are among the defeated and the downtrodden.

Let's revisit this dialogue after Trump leaves the White House. Let's take a look at where he lives and how he tries to help the American people.

Hell….he's not even trying to help them now - but we all know, he's in a class by himself.

By Deep State, are you referring to the Secret Service Staff which is assigned to protect him from the likes of John Wilkes Booth who simply can't stand the idea of a person of color being elected to the Presidency??

If you knew the street they are on, how accessible it would be, was, to a drive by, you'd want staff on site, too.

Today it has barriers to looky-loo's, which is appropriate.

Since you don't know DC geography, neighborhoods, etc, you'll just sit in your cave firing jealous pot shots, right?
