I'll paraphrase what you said earlier: People should just read their posts for what they say instead of making their own assumptions.

Before I get hit with McCarthy like accusations, I'm very happy that the weapons officer was rescued by the US and not captured by Iran. I come from a military family and have lived with the worry of what might happen to my relatives..

You have almost every dissenting opinion on ignore, it's not a badge of honor. It keeps you insulated and doesn't allow for any critical thinking when you just post for people who agree with you

I don't have him on ignore. What the useful Iranian idiots fail to comprehend (or at least express when posting propaganda) is that we have such military dominance over Iran that we were able to successfully perform a search and rescue and extraction inside Iran's mountains with zero casualties while the IRGC was trying desperately to capture the pilot and kill our soldiers.

PS, like many of us, my dad was in the military.

Exactly, that's how I know some would celebrate it as a failure of Trump. I didn't say you, not sure why you'd assume I was speaking about you. I disagree with 95% of the things you post but I don't think you're a bad guy. Others here, up for debate.

I at first thought this could end up as a Gary Powers situation, though ultimately fatal to the pilot.

Then when I heard Trump claim he was rescued, I thought it could be a lie.

But here's a more detailed account, and the link is worth reading.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/hiding-mountains-injured-us-airman-101826488.html

Certainly at least one book and one movie in this! At least!

As a kid there was the show Six Million Dollar Man.
This rescue operation might be worth a Billion. Two lost planes cost $100M each. And how many missiles were deployed in the effort?
Pretty remarkable story.

That would require me taking up a new hobby following dozens to hundreds of accounts to determine who has a good track record. Easier to just not trust anyone until I verify it myself (if I care to).

I could follow the lead of an old man (now deceased) on another board who posted unending streams of tripe he received in emails. Others were constantly refuting his stuff. When asked why he never checked anything out himself, he said "That's what you guys are for." Unfortunately, I don't trust some of you. His other saying, which runs rampant around here, was "If it's not true, it should be."

There are a lot of holes in the official narrative on that mission.

o, if I got that right, here's the narrative:

- A US F-15E fighter jet got shot down over Iran, despite Trump saying 2 days beforehand in his nationwide address that Iran has "no anti-aircraft equipment. Their radar is 100% annihilated." (https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-transcript-address-iran-war-b5970011fe934dde84d95d650bda56a9)

- The plane's weapons systems officer - a "highly respected Colonel," according to Trump - ejected from the plane and got "seriously wounded" (still according to Trump: https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/116351956955900185)

- He still managed to "hike up a 7,000-foot [2.1km] mountain ridgeline and hide in a crevice" in the Zagros Mountains, despite his wounds (https://time.com/article/2026/04/05/-safe-and-sound-how-a-u-s-airman-shot-down-in-iran-was-rescued-from-a-mountain-crevice/)

- U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drones started killing all "Iranian military-aged males believed to be a threat who got within three kilometers of [the American's location]" ( )

- To retrieve him the U.S. managed to seize an "abandoned airport," 200 miles deep inside Iran, near Isfahan (https://bbc.com/news/articles/cx2vpz1kwreo), which happens to be where Iran's largest atomic scientific center is located (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isfahan_Nuclear_Technology/Research_Center)

- They landed two MC-130 military transport planes in that airport (https://theaviationist.com/2026/04/05/u-s-rescues-downed-f-15e-wso-deep-inside-iran/) in an operation involving "hundreds of special forces troops and military personnel" (https://time.com/article/2026/04/05/-safe-and-sound-how-a-u-s-airman-shot-down-in-iran-was-rescued-from-a-mountain-crevice/)

- Both MC-130 planes got "stuck in the sand" and the U.S. destroyed them themselves "to prevent them from falling into Iranian hands" (https://theaviationist.com/2026/04/05/u-s-rescues-downed-f-15e-wso-deep-inside-iran/)

- They deployed "three new aircraft to extract all the U.S. personnel" on the ground (https://theaviationist.com/2026/04/05/u-s-rescues-downed-f-15e-wso-deep-inside-iran/)

- There are videos circulating online of "heavy clashes" with presumably Iranian missiles raining down in Kohgiluyeh County, in the Zagros Mountains during that night ( )

- Iran sent pictures of the aftermath at the "abandoned airport" and it's a sight of utter destruction, with US plane and MH-6 helicopter parts scattered all over the ground, still smoking (https://turkiyetoday.com/region/wreckage-of-us-c-130s-and-mh-6-helicopter-shown-in-iranian-footage-3217509?s=1). Iran claims they are the ones who in fact destroyed all the aircraft.

- Meanwhile a second U.S. plane, an A-10 Warthog, also crashed on Friday near the Strait of Hormuz according to two U.S. officials speaking to the NYT (https://nytimes.com/live/2026/04/03/world/iran-war-trump-oil?smid=url-share#47863db0-d61e-51bf-b7e1-6c4a9dc988e7). In that instance too the lone pilot was apparently "safely rescued."

- In all this, after the multiple planes and helicopters destroyed or shot down, the documented heavy clashes, the "hundreds of special forces troops and military personnel" operating deep inside Iran, not a single US soldier was reported killed "or even wounded" (according to Trump: https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/116350133044957842).

- And the 'highly respected Colonel' this was all for? No name. No photo. No interview. Nobody has spoken to him nor knows who he is.

So to sum up: anti-aircraft equipment that supposedly didn't exist shot down an F-15 (and, apparently, an A-10 Warthog the same day). A seriously wounded man climbed a 2.1km mountain. The US seized an airfield 200 miles inside a country it's at war with, next to one of its most strategic nuclear sites, and deployed hundreds of troops all apparently unimpeded. Lost two planes to "sand" and destroyed their own helicopters. Videos show heavy clashes, missiles raining down - but not a single person got "even wounded". And the man at the center of it all? Nobody knows who he is, completely anonymous, zero pictures, but Trump says he is "SAFE and SOUND." And so is the rescued A-10 Warthog pilot, who also remains anonymous.

Trump concludes this all proves the US has "achieved overwhelming Air Dominance and Superiority over the Iranian skies" (https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/116350133044957842), despite the whole episode only happening because Iran shot his planes out of the sky.

Basically, the only thing that's "overwhelming" here is the audacity of the storytelling...

I don't have much time for you or people who are so heavily propagandized that it's useless to engage, but here's one detail that is easily debunked.

The claim was that the C-130s landed in the area, couldn't take off again, and were subsequently blown up by our troops because we didn't want Iran to have them. The destruction pattern on the propellers however clearly show that the plane crash landed:
