The South has had all sorts of issues since the 13 colonies. https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/48817262/naacp-calls-boycott-southern-states-voting-rights

First Democrats were told they couldn't own black people and fought a war over it. Now they're upset because they can't even own their votes.

I've only been here a month but so far I haven't sniffed a hint of racism. Sadly, I cannot say the same thing about my time in CA and OR…where there were instances of whites saying some really unfortunate stuff behind closed doors after a few cocktails when they thought they were in a safe environment.

Also, 40% of current black US Senators come from 2 of the prior 11 Confederate states. There's no gerrymandering state wide elections.

The Southern Law and Poverty Center illegally funded the KKK thanks to the Democrats.

Wait, did Yogi try to sneak the classic far-right misinformation by us? The two parties switched sides decades ago. When the Confederate Battle Flag is criticized nowadays, which side suffers severe distress? You got it: the GOP. He is clearly being intellectually dishonest, but I have to compose this reply for readers who want to learn. For those paying attention, there should not be any lingering doubts about him being a closet conservative.

When did the parties "switch"?

Democrats continue to receive 45-50% of the Deep South vote for president. See Carter, Clinton, Gore, and Obama.

In Biden's America, the Democrats and Southern Poverty and Law Center financially supported the KKK.

1964.

The Democratic candidate had won the aggregate electoral vote in the former Confederate states in every presidential election since the end of Reconstruction. But post WWII, anti-racist liberals increasingly predominated in both the Democratic Party base and its office-holders, creating tension in the liberal-segregationist alliance between 1948-1964.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was the inflection point. Led by Johnson, the liberal Democrats broke the alliance with the segregationist Democrats by fully backing desegregation and total civil equality for Black Americans. Johnson still won the majority of electoral votes in the former Confederate states but by the second smallest margin since Reconstruction (1928 was lower but only because they nominated a Catholic). The handwriting was on the wall.

In 1968 the Democrats lost the electoral count in the former Confederacy for the first time since Reconstruction, coming in third behind Nixon and George Wallace. Since then they have only won the former Confederacy once, in 1976 with the Georgian Carter facing Ford who ran in the shadow of Watergate, the fall of Saigon and a weak economy. Since 1976, no Democratic candidate has gotten more than 55 electoral votes from the former Confederacy, with the Republican candidate averaging 128 electoral votes from those states.

Anti-racism wasn't the only channel through which the Democrats repulsed the South. They also championed women's rights, gay rights and secular society generally while the White South was becoming increasingly politically organized around evangelical Christianity, which the Republican Party increasingly adopted.

You are correct that despite losing the South, some Democratic candidates managed to come within 10% of the Republican vote in the Deep South but remember the Democrats used to ALWAYS win the South and usually by a gigantic margin. To go from that to what we have seen since 1980 where the Democrat candidate ALWAYS loses the South and is frequently annihilated there is a shift of historic proportions. Remember also that since the 60's, the Democratic candidate gets 80+% of the Black vote, giving them a high floor in the South despite their repulsion of White Conservatives.

I don't know why right-wingers choose to contest this particular historical narrative. I can only imagine it's willful ignorance. The Democrats became more socially progressive and socially ultra-conservative White Southerners revolted (at the same time the Democrats transformed economically but that's a secondary factor because despite the extent to which the Democrats sold out to neoliberalism, they are not more bought by capital than the Republicans). What would you expect to happen?

You already said that. What they did was pay an informant, a practice used when trying to develop information. Police departments, the FBI, and the DEA use paid informants all the time. Hopefully the case will go to a jury.
