Nearly 4 million people who signed up for the Affordable Care Act plans this year have already dropped their coverage after the loss of subsidies resulted in sharply higher costs.

A report by the Dept of Health & Human Services assistant secretary for planning and evaluation said that an estimated 19.2 million people are enrolled in ACA plans as of February.

That would represent a drop off of more than 16 percent from approximately 23 million, who signed up for ACA coverage during this year's open enrollment period.

I had to take out a supplemental policy for $195 a month cause Medicare Part B wasn't covering everything.
I was still getting "dinged" 20% on basic visits, etc.

So for the youngsters out there, they can expect paying $203 for Part B per month and an additional $195 for a supplemental. Literally $400 a month when you turn 65.

Shouldn't you blame the Democrats for Obamacare's failures?

They knew Obamacare was going to increase government involvement and be dependent on taxpayer-funded subsidies. Blame them for NOT delivering the promised lower costs for everyone.

Trump never formally proposed or introduced a specific healthcare bill officially named "Trumpcare".

The term "Trumpcare" emerged mainly as a media or political nickname often used critically rather than an official proposal from Trump himself. It was frequently applied to Republican-led efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA, or Obamacare) during his first term.

You were duped by the media you consume....again.

In September of 2024 Trump said that he would figure out a way to offer healthcare to American's that was better and more cost effective than Obamacare.

I guess he failed to come up with a plan that was more cost effective.
Because he's never replaced Obamacare with something better.

Healthcare cost growth has trended down a lot since Obamacare. Under the Republican plan most of those 19 million would have no health insurance.

  • Top 5 insurers (UnitedHealth Group, Elevance, Cigna, CVS/Aetna, Kaiser) earned over $371 billion in cumulative profits since the ACA's 2010 passage. Annual profits rose 230%, with UnitedHealth alone up nearly 400%. Total revenue to these firms exceeded $9 trillion.
  • Stock performance: Health insurer stocks soared post-ACA weighted average up 1,032% from 2010 and 448% from 2013 (far outpacing the S&P 500). Medicaid-focused insurers like Centene and Molina saw gains of 425-1,000%+.
  • Medicaid managed care: The expansion turned into a major profit center. Federal spending on expansion enrollees hit ~$126 billion in 2023 alone (plus state shares), with insurers managing most of it.

    Obamamacare save America trillions and most of those people affected would have no insurance under Republican plans.

    Part B premiums also increase with your income. Tops out at $690 for joint income > $750,000

    Your Medicsre supplement also covers Part A deductibles and coinsurance

    If you're like most of us old farts, you'll need part D coverage for prescriptions. I pay about $90/month

    Finally, purchase a supplement as soon as you get on Medicare. There's a 10% penalty for every 12 months you delay, and that penalty applies for life. More importantly, delaying your purchase lets the insurance company review your health status, which can lead to higher premiums and even denial of coverage

    I have a cheapie policy for Part D with Wellcare.
    Only $70 a year.

    When I do need some sort of medication, I invariably use a GoodRX coupon given that their pricing is far cheaper than Wellcare. It's not even close really.
