Slow the spread, but us time until there could be a vaccine - which eventually we got.

""This hearing is designed to entrap you," said Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire.
Scientists also scrambled to Fauci's defense ahead of the unusual hearing the second time the longtime National Institutes of Health scientist has been back before Congress to discuss pandemic origins since leaving the government in 2022. While the COVID-19 pandemic introduced him to millions of Americans, he talked the nation through numerous outbreaks over decades, including HIV, Ebola and the 2001 anthrax attacks, while advising seven presidents.

In a public letter, more than 150 infectious-disease experts and other scientists wrote that "no credible evidence has been produced to support these absurd charges" and that they are "urging our elected representatives in Congress stop these witch-hunts."

Among topics discussed at Wednesday's hearing was whether NIH-funded research in China may have played a role in how the pandemic started.

Many scientists believe the virus most likely emerged in nature and jumped from animals to people, coming to light when it spread at a wildlife market in the Chinese city of Wuhan. There's no new scientific information supporting that the virus might instead have leaked from a laboratory, a theory Paul champions. A GOP-led subcommittee that studied the question in 2024 did not find any evidence linking Fauci to wrongdoing.
Fauci has long said publicly that he was open to both theories but that there's more evidence supporting COVID-19's natural origins."

Going after Fauci is an attempt to repackage history of this away from Trump, who nearly died from the disease himself, and who stupidly stood the podium and tried to talk to Americans as if he was a scientist himself.

Remember when he rambled on about how maybe we could Inject sunlight into the body, or the whole swallow bleach thing?

He couldn't stand others getting the nations attention so he began to take over those hearings. Just like he couldn't stand having the winning soccer team, receive their trophy without him having his photo taken.

Thanks everybody for reminding me what this was all about.

Lol.

COVID hit Spring 2020 and stay at home orders went into effect fairly quickly. Some states began lifting these orders in May and July. Biden became president January 2021. He didn't end the federal emergency until May 2023, after being in office for 2 1/2 years.

This "thought" that maybe some researchers were working on this in a lab and it leaked…. So far as I know, it remains merely a possibility, yes?

If so, I think attacking Fauci as if he's some criminal for not proceeding as if it's fact is ridiculous.

I do apologize.
I'm not tracking what "has been described in this thread".
I really don't understand what the fuss is. Can nature, rather than Trump/Biden/Fauci be responsible for all the people who died during Covid?

What's the problem here?
Here's what I got so far:

1. "I'm mad that my civil liberties were violated, due to:
A) stay at home.
B) take the vaccine or get fired."

2. I'm mad that kids were affected by the school closures."

What else?
concordtom

By the way, regarding people being upset about how kids were impacted via school closures, I just had a thought:

It's beats having to deal with a war. Think about anyone who lived through ww2 in Europe.
Things happen. Deal with it. Life is not linear, to quote Shocky. America has gotten soft, my goodness. If we don't get an A we go to the principal. Toughen up, people. Life will present adversity.

And yes, I have 5 children.
They were impacted.

Okay, that was a seriously weak retort. Invoking aliens into your argument is not going to make your point.

What I'm complaining about is this American attitude which has developed over time where we no longer can withstand hardship. The entire Make America Great Again mindset is to go back to that short lived postwar period where we were alone in global supremacy and experienced an expanding standard of living.

It spoiled us and made us soft.

Now hungry and more desperate for es are competing successfully against us and what do we do??? We borrow against our future to consume more today ($40T debt) and we starts wars for oil, and we create billions out of decently men because our senior year of high school was canceled. (That's my kid, no prom, no varsity seasons, etc.)

Toughen up, America!
Stop with this. Start building a better future!!

Accept less. Do more.
Life is hard!! Life is not fair.
Be thankful you are alive, sheltered, have food. Start from there each day.
Attitude of gratitude.

Again, you want to purposely stay ignorant so you can argue against something that isn't true and ignore the facts presented.

"Through its investigation, the select subcommittee has learned that Dr. Fauci and NIH exerted more influence over the conference call than previously disclosed. Further, by the end of the Feb. 1 conference call, Dr. Fauci had suggested the drafting of a paper regarding the potential of a lab leak to Dr. [Kristian] Andersen twice. This suggestion was what 'prompted' Dr. Andersen to draft 'Proximal Origin."

"So, the authors revised their paper, adding language that the lab origin was implausible, and successfully submitted it to Nature Medicine, part of the Nature portfolio of journals. The finished producttitled "The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2"was published in Nature Medicine on March 17, 2020.

The Nature Medicine article, according to the subcommittee report, "is one of the single most impactful and influential scientific papers in history, and it expressed conclusions that were not based on sound science nor in fact, but instead on assumptions."

I and others have issues with many others Fauci's directives. Here, we are focusing on his immoral discrediting of the lab leak theory. Please respect that this is what we are discussing and not the other things you inject into nearly every topic.

Fauci wasn't the only person who exerted such influence discrediting the lab leak. However, he was the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health and also influencing public opinion through media appearances. It is interesting that his wife was the head of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center.

There is plausible evidence that Fauci's scientists indirectly funded illegal coronavirus gain of function research at Wuhan. This research created COVID 19. COVID 19 escaped from Wuhan. A whole lot of people are covering that up.

The only thing the far left has is the belief that they hold the moral high ground in everything.

When presented w overwhelming evidence that a previous belief was immoral, they collapse. It's like believing in a God your entire life and then being shown evidence that your God is a false idol. They will wander the desert for the next 40 years before admitting they were wrong.

But these people desperately need our help. I would encourage all of us to identify these individuals and get them institutionalized into mental health clinics. There, and only there, after many years of forced therapy, will the return to being functional citizens of society.

It's the only song you know
It's boring and it's slow
