Generally Jerry is okay but as mayor of Oakland he sucked giant turd balls of non-transparency and doing things not under public record. Example: his 10k housing units in downtown Oakland, good idea, great idea...and he *******ized it by jumping planning regulations, ie., he shotgunned and didn't give a turd about code or planning regulations, like existing building height, which is a pretty fair law.

Then there are his special pals who got special deals...like the guy running the Oakland port expansion. Seems rather sleazy that a major infastructure project got essentially a no-bid deal.

And then there's his "Zen" stuff...yeah, no.

I like Brown, even though he probably paved the way for its gentrification. (I lived in his Oakland).

But I'll always remember him speaking on the steps of Sproul Hall at noon around 1998, and nobody really paying attention, and students just walking by, like he's just another Sproul speaker.

He also killed off regional and urban redevelopment agencies as governor. Sure he had few choices but that has opened the door even more to gentrification and run-away rent. Without some kind of publicly funded housing, we get what we now have: a housing crisis fueled by only market rate housing and thus you get $1mil median priced homes and MDs not being able to afford a house. No he didn't cause the Recession and fallout but he more or less just kicked the can down the road. Maybe that was all that could be done...regardless, his actions will have a long term negative effect.

Otherwise, Brown is okay. I don't think he's bad but his arrogance gets in the way, and it's not very Buddhist.
