Growing up as a second generation American in an Irish Catholic household this very portrait hung in a place of honor in our home:

If my parents knew at the time he was getting a lot of what tRump likes to grab they didn't tell us kids about it.

Anyone else have mad respect for concordtom for being a Republican who is vocally enraged by the damage the president of his own party is doing to our country and its institutions? Seems like a country before party Bear to me.
If only there were another 50 million people like me who were raised in a republican household, complete with photos of presidents, taught to view democrats as the "tax and spend" party - and yet now recognize that the Republican Party is a complete ****ing joke!

It's not just the party, it's an entire network and cultural shift. We are doomed.

Maybe it was always thus, but trump is simply so blatant that he exposes how horrible.

For the record, BA, I married a gal from RI whose dad ran for local office as a democrat, who committed his life to helping serve mentally ******ed (rhymes with recarded) people. It influenced me JUST A LITTLE.
He said when I first met him, cause I asked what he felt the meaning of life was, that we all have a responsibility to help those who were less fortunate than ourselves.
Jack Kennedy-esque. "Ask not..."

Very different from (half of the 4) parents who felt that Atlas Shrugged explained everything.
****ing idiots. They lost their hearts in their chase for the golden ring. Self aggrandizement.

I changed my initial registration from Republican to Independent 20 years ago when I moved back to CA, and only recently registered as republican again, if only so I could vote my local rep out in the primary. But now we have open primaries so that was pointless.
And since trump, I am not Independent, I am "vote the ****ers out" hostile!
Are there any Democrats with the un-trammeled fighting spirit of Republicans such as CT and Steve Schmidt (and, of course, the more vicious Republicans who are still in the party of which there are many)?

Okay, so, I'm watching that gif and waiting, waiting, waiting for his head to explode any second now.

My wife, born and raised in Dublin 14, tells of the three pictures that always hung in the sitting room of her home (and many others in Ireland): The current pope, The Sacred Heart, and JFK.

Her home had a bonus 4th photo: Elvis (her Welsh mother was a HUGE fan).

Wow, I never saw this movie or heard this song.

Regarding the gun violence problem we have in this country, does anyone think there is a link between that and movies, video games, or music? Freedom of speech protects such things, but I think there's a link and would support limits on it.

Earl Nightingale in "The Strangest Secret": we become what we think about.

Americans casually consume more violence than any other nation, no?
We have more gun violence than any other nation, no?
Correlation?

I think there is a link between watching this show and engaging in senseless acts of martial arts.

Tonight I'm feeling that as long as Democrats win the House, there's no way Trump finishes his term (though it would just mean he's around till 2019 instead of 2020). Someone please talk me down from this counterproductive sense of hope.

Reasons for GTFO:

1. Liar
2. Sets a terrible abrasive tone
3. Damages allied relationships
4. Mortgages the future for current gain - unbalanced budget
5. Unkinder, ungentler future with regard to immigrants, children of immigrants, foreigners, people of color, women or anyone who weighs 400 pounds
6. Environmental policies damage sensitive habitats, are bad for air quality, global warming and the development of clean tech
7. Tariffs spark trade war

(Please, continue this list. Maybe there's a website of them all....)

I previously thought it not good to impeach him, as the "red" backlash would be immense and they'd want to retaliate at the very next opportunity. It's becomes nodal: dem pres and GOP congress, not matter who the dem pres is. Tribal warfare. I could envision future stumpers rallying the crowds in a Pink Floyd the wall kind of way.

But, my, it would be so satisfying to have such a rebuke of trump.
Let's hope trump either has serious attitude correction and just loses the 2020 election quietly or there is super duper real evidence of his horrible lawbreaking ways and the entire nation rebukes him.

Any impeachment should not be partisan anger. That would not be good for the nation.

If Democrats win the House I think hearings that expose everybody and everything in a TRUTHFUL manner is the correct approach. An impeachment process that leads to an impeachment trial 1 year before an election will only enflame the Republicans. I'd rather they just be humiliated for 2 years in hearings and court rooms while the House cripples the lame duck Trump Presidency.

If Democrats DON'T win the House then I think the GOP will destroy the Mueller investigation and any other investigations into their corruption (the NRA, etc.). They will advance on voter suppression, gerrymandering and stuffing the Courts with their partisans. Move forward on criminalization proceedings of any Democrat who is a threat (they've been doing this since 1994) and they will end American Democracy as we know it with a ruling government of the 40%. This is not crazy talk. This has been done in our lifetimes in other countries to establish autocratic rule. There is a playbook for this and we are in play.

I'm not being hyperbolic when I say this is the most important election we have ever had in our lifetimes.

You want me to burst your optimistic bubble? I have little confidence that the 2018 midterm elections will be fair. We know the Russians attempted to hack local voting machines in 2016, which occurred with a non-puppet president. Two years later, you have a puppet president who has been trying to establish private communications with the Russians to exchange information outside of the public or formal eye. I think it is entirely plausible the puppet president provides additional information to the Russians to both hack into the voting machines and manipulate the vote totals, to consolidate his own power.

Also, as Trump continues to blunder his way through the presidency, his supporters become more entrenched in their defense of him. I don't know if it is an ego thing, in that they simply can't acknowledge he is a terrible option who is destroying the country for personal gain. His approval ratings amongst Republicans has increased, and the people that support him (old white people) are very reliable voters.

The Senate is what matters if you want Trump impeached and there aren't going to be enough Democrats to do the job.
concordtom
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Okay, so I had previously been against impeachment because thought it would divide the US too much.
But since Trump hasn't fallen off a cliff yet, I'm reconsidering.

Here's a way it would go down, acceptably:

Dems win the House at midterms.
New speaker and committee chairs make it so the House committee investigation into Trump and his evil ways is fully and accurately explored.
Suddenly, severely incriminating and disgusting abuses and lies are revealed.
House votes to impeach on simply majority, and sends the issue to the Senate, which requires a 2/3rds margine.
Dems certainly won't get that margin but with the newly damning evidence, even Reps can't deny that he needs to go.
Bye bye butthead!

They could have a video of tRump handing diagrams and specs of our latest fighter jet to Putin and the Republicans won't impeach him. No jury will ever convict him of a crime either. KFC, McDonalds, Diet Coke and Viagra will have to carry out their assignments. When that heart finally explodes it will splatter like a cherry bomb in a bag of puddin'........either that or he lives to age 97 like General Burkhalter.

Well, maybe a Dem congress will be able to release video of him:
Golden shower
Russian bank wires between Putin and trump
Tax returns
Fraudulent trump foundation will be better spelled out
Fraudulent anualmente dealings with deutschebank
Fraudulent dealings with Kushner family real estate
...
...
...

And it will be all so overwhelmingly clear, even Fox & Friends will start tweeting against him

Look,, it's either that or he splits his head open on Air Force One stairs.

Let's acknowledge that spam is probably too gentle a word. I doubt these posts are actually trying to sell you something. Instead, I believe it's more likely that these posts are trying to either install adware or malware on your computer or steal something from you.

Nah.
He'll be thinking about the financial deals as yet incomplete, where the hidden money is, the debts he has to pay.... there will be an "oh no" panicky thought, because the unfinished business is gonna leave his kids in a lurch.
That panicky regret is what's going to make him sink into hell rather than float up to heaven.
