Fantastic read. Good to hear a Republican stepping back from tribalism and stating the obvious observations of how his party has moved from a political leaning with a set of policy, to a set of beliefs that are a loyalty test.

Yesterday, I listened to his interview on the "Words Matter" podcast. That's what prompted me to post the above article. I'd highly suggest that podcast. It until recently was Steve Schmidt and Elise Jordan's, who both ran McCain's last campaign. Interestingly, Schmidt stormed off and quit the podcast last week because he did not like the questions that were being asked about his new job as Howard Schultz's campaign director.

Some people are always going to knock Boot for his past positions, but IMO if you want politics in this country to go your way, you're also going to have to be accepting of some converts. I don't mean support them unconditionally, but cheer when they get things right and criticize when they get things wrong.

I am cheered by someone like Boot finally seeing the light on a lot of this stuff.
