The goal of both parties is to promote policies that adhere to the policies of their donors, preserve their re-election and guarantee our ossified system of government. The goal of the American people is to have a working wage, better health care, better access to education, etc. This is why there has been such a disconnect between parties and voters and why both parties are viewed unfavorably.

When someone tries to break with this, their policies are labeled"radical or socialist", often by both parties. It's all about maintaining power for the few.

tRump is going to win in 2020 because the Electoral College gives a lot of bang for the buck to the votes of ignorant, gullible and fearful White people.

Not nominating the moron Clinton who spent a billion dollars and couldn't find Wisconsin makes it even money.

Tim Wise is the type of guy that I can agree with his general point while at the same time wishing he'd shut the **** up.

I think he's right in that most people don't vote on policy specifically, they vote more generally on personality and strength of message (and are swayed by external factors like whether they are comfortable with the status quo or want a change).

Having the perfect policy isn't going to win an election, though there may be something to marketing yourself as the "person who knows what to do," which seems to be Elizabeth Warren's strategy. That's more about the collective message than individual policies though; the policies she drafts just reinforce the brand.

I have no idea who Tim Wise is...but he isn't very wise from that post. America votes for the guy they want to have a beer with, not policy. And what about the GOP and policy, who now back Trump? For god freakin sake, they use to be about law and order, justice, fiscal conservativism, yada, yada, yada... So why is it on the Dems, because the GOP got the full re*ard in office?

The direction of this country is NOT a party or partisan issue. It's a whole country issue and this bullsh*t reinforces the partisan nature of today.

This is a wide scale systemic problem starting with crap education and American historians fetishizing the POTUS and is backed up by just backward civics education. Driving down education of course is a classic GOP move...to sponge off charter schools and because a dumb, uneducated electorate votes likes idiots.

I don't think Bernie got the votes he got because people want to have a beer with him, although perhaps an argument can be made that because he doesn't fit that profile, there's a ceiling as to how many votes he could get.

Uhh, I don't think Wise's argument is that people vote on policy, just the opposite in fact.

Why is it the most creative insult a tRumpist apologist can come up with is the ole 3rd grade on the playground mirror image retort: "No Puppet, You're the Puppet!"

It's the classic "I know you are, but what am I?" defense. It's basically 3rd grade style projection. And as we all know, Projection is on page one of RWNJ playbook.

Oh yeah, and IOIYAR.
