Trump's New McCain rule

Ever the bully, Trump has issued new citizenship rules (somehow I forgot he has the power of citizenship, next he will revoke voting privileges based on removing citizenship).

Yesterday TTA (The Trump Admin) announced - "we will not consider children who live abroad with their parents to be residing in the United States even if their parents are U.S. government employees or U.S. service members stationed outside of the United States, and as a result, these children will no longer be considered to have acquired citizenship automatically."

John McCain was not born in the US (but in the Panama Canal Zone) a location not considered by the Grump to be part of the US (like Hawaii, this is nothing new for this 'birther').

What bothers me is that our Number One Draft Dodger (admittedly I have been called a dodger-hater), continues to attack the memory of those who actually served in Vietnam. It's one thing to argue that the war was a mistake, it's something else to attack those who served, treating almost as traitors. This is what Conservatives accused liberals like John Kerry (who actually served) of planning if they were elected. Now with the conservatives in charge, The Grump is continually demeaning government service.

Also revealed was that The Army has been deporting service members from foreign countries who had been promised citizenship as a condition of service. This country has always deployed a high number (25% or more) in our foreign wars. All this does is make the US a very unreliable ally internationally.

This has since been clarified (something that seems to have to happen a lot under Trump).

Following publication of this story, U.S. government officials were forced to address widespread concern about how this policy change affects children of U.S. service members. Ken Cuccinelli, Acting Director of USCIS, said in a statement that "this policy update does not affect who is born a U.S. citizen, period."

"This only affects children who were born outside the United States and were not U.S. citizens. This does NOT impact birthright citizenship. This policy update does not deny citizenship to the children of US government employees or members of the military born abroad," he added, though Task & Purpose did not report that citizenship would be denied. "This policy aligns USCIS' process with the Department of State's procedure, that's it."

A USCIS official further clarified the original statement for Task & Purpose after publication.

In plain English: Children who are adopted by U.S. service members abroad, and children who are born to service members while overseas who are not yet citizens (such as service members who are green card holders) will not receive automatic citizenship by merely living with their parents who are out of the U.S on orders.
So I don't think this would have affected McCain.

Except that was not how the policy was written. It would have only taken a couple of additional words to exclude chidren of US Citizens And I saw an additional 'policy' statement that this did apply to children of naturalized citizens. The only ones who will likely be exempt are the children of native born citizens who support Emperor Donald the First. At this time since the clarifications are not in writing they have little legal impact, especially if they are not made by the official who issued the policy statement.

It sure wouldn't be the first time the Trump Administration did something hastily, caused chaos, and then had to quickly walk it back.

Pretty much any decent candidate is making a list of EVERY SINGLE thing that Trump has done, and they will be reversing all of it.
Erase him from the history books.
Such a sad chapter for us Americans.
Shame.
