I'm completely on board with police reforms, but the movement need to distance themselves from these jokers or they will never have mass appeal.

"Take down the capitalist system" was going to become a movement regardless of whether or not BLM got involved. You can't have this level of income inequality, add in a massive virus-aided recession, and expect socialism/Marxism to remain at bay in our political system. Just take a look at how younger voters feel about those ideas; they're open to them. And why not? They've seen nothing but instability in our economic system since they entered the workforce.

That doesn't mean the country is becoming socialist, but it's going to be a thing that's on the table for a little while now. A lot will depend on how our political leaders handle it.

In case you haven't noticed, the vast majority of professors are left to far left. There is no diversity of thought in university anymore.Conservatives that become teachers get fired. You have safe spaces and cry boxes now. You have "Silence is violence" and "Words can be violence" being taught in universities. You have living spaces and study spaces in universities being separated by race now. That's surely progressive. The few conservative students that attend university have learned to shut their mouths in fear of being shouted down or even assaulted. So even class discussions are just echo chambers. So kids go to school and become indoctrinated along with when they leave and watch social media and tv. I don't expect you to agree with anything i wrote and that's fine, but I'm not alone with seeing the harm that this is causing.

It's not only the college educated who are more open to these ideas.

Anyway, regardless of how it happened, it's here now. There is a lot of demand for systemic change. Either the current leaders figure out how to deal with it or they will have to get out of the way for leaders who can.

Because large change takes time. Nothing moves fast in the US gov't. There needs to be a back and forth of ideas that take place in congress. Some believe we should completely defund the police, some believe partial defunding, some believe we should increase funding and add more training and take cops off the job to train. Some believe we shouldn't change anything. The problem is there is no nuance right now, everything is black or white. People need to stop and listen and learn to compromise.

Poor MinotStateBear. His country is about to change rapidly right before his eyes and he is powerless to stop it.

For reference, the NAACP was founded in 1919 to fight police brutality and lynching. A hundred and one years ago (101!).

Out of the view of most, the debates have been going for quite a while. Papers have been written. Conferences have been held. The Obama administration issued detailed guidelines. Some departments have implemented best practices. The slow stuff has been done. We are in the fierce urgency of now.

The type of reform I'm interested in is the kind that has a police force willing to protect public property instead of watching the destruction unfold at a safe distance as has been the case in Washington DC, Portland, Minneapolis, and yes, San Francisco.
