I know everyone suffers from Trump fatigue. However, everyone needs to read the transcript of Trump's speech at Mount Rushmore. It is time to face exactly what he has become and what he is about. What he has evolved to become from what many of us already found unacceptable. In his speech commemorating the birth of our country, a day where we normally come together, he has given a speech of hate that I would not have thought possible from an American president 2 days ago, let alone 4 years ago. He has laid bare what his movement is about. It is not about being mad at Washington. It is not about wanting a change. This is not 2016 Trump as much as many of us disagreed with that version. This is an entirely new animal. For many of us, this development may have been predictable, but it is striking nonetheless how deep into cliche hatred he has forged.

Democrats. It is time to put aside our squabbles and concentrate on the task at hand. For me, my checkbook is about to open liberally for this election.

Independents. Moderate Republicans. Conservative Republicans. It is time to face what this choice is about. There is plenty of time to debate economic policy, government regulation, etc. Sometimes you have to stand up for more basic principles. Not voting is just not an option. There are things that are worth voting against even if you don't like the option you are voting for. I wish we had a candidate that represents the policy beliefs of everyone out there. We do not. For those of you who do not have a candidate speaking for them, I ask you to consider putting policy aside one time and instead use your vote to speak for something different. Our country cannot stand 4 years of this. Make no mistake, those 4 years will be far more divisive than the first 4.

For those that read Trump's speech and determine he is still the man for you, I'm sorry, but we have come to a parting of the ways.

Some excerpts are below. Honestly, there are things I just cannot believe didn't make the cut. This is how Trump chooses to celebrate the birth of our country.

Read this speech. He is calling us to make a choice, and a choice we must make.

Quote:

Make no mistake. This left-wing cultural revolution is designed to overthrow the American Revolution. In so doing they would destroy the very civilization that rescued billions from poverty, disease, violence, and hunger, and that lifted humanity to new heights of achievement, discovery, and progress. To make this possible, they are determined to tear down every statue, symbol, and memory of our national heritage

Quote:

Against every law of society and nature, our children are taught in school to hate their own country and to believe that the men and women who built it were not heroes but that were villains
.

Quote:

1776 represented the culmination of thousands of years of Western civilization and the triumph of not only spirit, but of wisdom, philosophy, and reason. And yet, as we meet here tonight, there is a growing danger that threatens every blessing our ancestors fought so hard for, struggled, they bled to secure. Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values, and indoctrinate our children. Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our founders, deface our most sacred memorials, and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities. Many of these people have no idea why they're doing this, but some know what they are doing. They think the American people are weak and soft and submissive, but no, the American people are strong and proud and they will not allow our country and all of its values, history, and culture to be taken from them

Quote:

One of their political weapons is cancel culture, driving people from their jobs, shaming dissenters, and demanding total submission from anyone who disagrees. This is the very definition of totalitarianism, and it is completely alien to our culture and to our values and it has absolutely no place in the United States of America

This attack on our liberty, our magnificent liberty must be stopped and it will be stopped very quickly. We will expose this dangerous movement, protect our nation's children from this radical assault, and preserve our beloved American way of life. In our schools, our newsrooms, even our corporate boardrooms, there is a new far-left fascism that demands absolute allegiance. If you do not speak its language, perform its rituals, recite its mantras, and follow its commandments, then you will be censored, banished, blacklisted, persecuted, and punished. It's not going to happen to us.

Quote:

The violent mayhem we have seen in the streets and cities that are run by liberal Democrats in every case is the predictable result of years of extreme indoctrination and bias in education, journalism, and other cultural institutions.

Quote:

Those who seek to erase our heritage want Americans to forget our pride and our great dignity so that we can no longer understand ourselves or America's destiny. In toppling the heroes of 1776, they seek to dissolve the bonds of love and loyalty that we feel for our country and that we feel for each other. Their goal is not a better America, their goal is to end America.

Quote:

In its place, they want power for themselves, but just as patriots did in centuries past, the American people will stand in their way and we will win and win quickly and with great dignity.

Quote:

Our opponents would tear apart the very documents that Martin Luther King used to express his dream and the ideas that were the foundation of the righteous movement for Civil Rights. They would tear down the beliefs, culture and identity, that have made America the most vibrant and tolerant society in the history of the earth. My fellow Americans, it is time to speak up loudly and strongly and powerfully and defend the integrity of our country

Quote:

Americans declare again, as we did 244 years ago, that we will not be tyrannized, we will not be demeaned, and we will not be intimidated by bad, evil people. It will not happen

I disagree. He is going further than he ever has. People that have tuned him out may not know exactly what he has come to. And there are also those that won't vote for Trump but could be swayed to vote for Biden instead of sitting out if they fully realize how bad he has gotten.

This is no longer the realm of thinly veiled references to things like Mexican rapists. This is an open call to arms against anyone who is different. It is time to hear what he is saying now and stand up against it.

I will say this from the opposite side of the coin. At this point, there isn't anything Biden or Trump can do for me to vote for Trump over Biden. From my perspective, the last four years have been more than persuasive.

The only moral dilemma with regard to not voting for Biden is if you live in a key Electoral College state that will determine the outcome of the election regardless of the popular vote.
When John Bolton was asked by Martha Raddatz why he won't vote for Biden in light of how dangerous he thinks tRump is, Bolton responded: "Biden is going to carry my state so it doesn't matter." I would have asked him the follow up question, "Would you vote for Biden if you lived in one of the key Electoral College states that will determine the outcome of the Election?" She never asked him.
I know how Bernie Bros answer that question.

Sounds like Trump's speechwriters read some of the material posted by our resident conservatives here (not you, 93).

He is the President of Fox News and the conservative media bubble, not of anyone else.

The quotes are horrifying, to be sure, but to me, it's just more rhetoric as he desperately tries to cling to the core of his base. He is an angry, confused and frustrated man. Had he begun to consistently reach out, starting in March, he might actually be in a decent position to be reelected right now, but I don't think he even has any clue how badly he's screwed up.

The next six months+ are going to be a dangerous time for our country, in a number of ways.

The rest is just typical Trump-speak and undeserving of recognition.

Cultural War distractions from decades of
massive failures suit both parties. Let's talk about statues, antifa, some new Putin Hoax; Trump bringing back the third reich; taking Jefferson down from Rushmore and putting up a black trans. This is the turf both parties want to fight on. The only new thing here and it is predictable for Trump- and not really new at all; see Richard Nixon- is that the enemy is not the hordes of invading Guatemalan children rapists but the enemy is now within- the fifth column. It worked for Nixon but he was a challenger; it won't work for Trump because people are tired of chaos and deflection and Trump is responsible.

Spare us the grandstanding and rhetorical alarmism.

You apologize and rationalize abject violence in the name of a political ideology you agree with, and you expect to be taken seriously when you sound the alarm bells over rhetoric that merely calls out your ideology and political priorities, and also while appealing to "how could he do this on the 4th of July!". All of a sudden political and cultural criticism is "division". Nobody is buying this.

The "politics of hate" only bothers you when your enemy is being hated, not when your ideology is the target. A cursory glance at Trump's rhetoric is the self evident, run of the mill calling out of the leftist radical hatred and the leftist"moderates" that give the radicals moral and political cover.

For better or for worse, culture is more (or as) important to the majority of Americans than economics. While surely some significant number have these priorities for irrational reasons, a sound argument can be made that culture is just as or more impactful in our daily lives than economic policy differences between the parties -- e.g a marginal federal income tax rate difference of 2%. Our daily lives are more impacted by the values and communities in which we partake -- and some fundamental shared values with others is significant.

The culture war isn't where "parties prefer to battle" it is where individuals and parties can separate themselves from others because culturally is where the most significant gaps in values reside, -- and it is what has more present, emotional and psychological impacts on most people's lives. In other words, as the radicals become more radical, driving a larger cultural divide, it becomes more of an urgent agenda for the average American.

The recent domestic terrorism -- and the divergent responses to it -- illustrate the urgency of this "war" to voters.

Not everyone is a cultural marxist who would like everyone to believe they don't think it matters, and thus presume this is merely Americans being played on puppet strings the way the political establishment want.

Key points appeared to be something culturally we are too weak to do publicly but obvious and axiomatic to the American "silent" majority: standing up against radical domestic terrorists and their coward apologists. Calling out these degenerate, purposeless clowns on Independence Day seems spot-on

There is plenty of time to debate economic policy, government regulation, etc....Our country cannot stand 4 years of this. Make no mistake, those 4 years will be far more divisive than the first 4.

Where does this confidence that Joe Biden will bring the country together come from? It's a big lie, policy is everything.

For those that read Trump's speech and determine he is still the man for you, I'm sorry, but we have come to a parting of the ways.

You finally decided to draw a line only until now?

Which is why this virtue signalling pontificating is so much hot air. It's his way to avoid having to talk about the inadequacy of his party's candidate.
No one has contributed more hot air and pontificating to this board than you have. Your use of cliche conservative catch phrases shows what a dupe you are. The conservatives are using you.

The bottom line is while you accuse others of privilege, you take the most privileged, bubble view of them all. You will sit on your ass and let a guy win who expresses open hostility to minorities and encourages his followers to do the same. Actions that result in torches and running people down with their cars and death by cop and a million other lesser slights per day. Why? Because the pipe dream of a few new corporate taxes are what is important to you. A position that does very little to help minorities. It helps you. Minorities don't have the privilege to nickel and dime over a candidate's tax policy while the other candidate poses an existential threat. That is why the overwhelming majority of the Black vote will go to Biden. Fact is that the difference between Trump and Biden is far greater to them than the difference between Biden and Sanders.

Your agreement with Trump over the irrational fear of "cancel culture" is all we need to know about your leanings. "Cancel culture" is just a rehashed renamed version of the "Political Correctness" label given to anyone who wants to stand up for the rights of people.

As for Biden, he isn't my perfect candidate, but he is a very good one. I have spoken at length about why his capital gains policy is light years better than the wealth tax that Warren and Sanders proposed because 1. It is Constitutional, 2. It is actually possible to get passed, 3. It is easy to implement and enforce, 4. It actually works, and 5. It would do far more to reduce the wealth gap in this country.

That is the difference between fake liberals who vote for slogans that sound good and real liberals that do their homework to find out what policies actually do anything. You don't end up voting for stupid policies that will leave the wealthy laughing their asses off that the liberals are appeased while they got away with zero impact.

OTB's posts have continue its marked decline from bad to terrible.

As someone else noted in this thread, it's this kind of moral pontificating that is cover for the reality, which is that he was simply triggered by this particular Trump's speech for presumably a multitude of reasons, so much so that he needed to start his own thread about it under the guise of this being the "line in the sand" for his "tolerance" of [people who don't take his side in this year's election] and his righteous moral consciousness.

Not a single substantive litigation of anything that was actually said and why it, more so than anything else the past 4 years, warrants an epic line in the sand -- it's nothing but him just emoting about how it is self evident that any morally serious person should be on his side. It's becoming the norm for him.

This is what's so bad -- so much strawmanning and outright dishonesty. And weak, facile generalizations to superficially prop up his original strawman.

To all the smartest guys in the room, glib, patronizing a$$h@les on this board that don't like tRump but criticize the only opposition candidate, what is your real world plan to get him out of the Oval?
Hopefully you all live in states where tRump is going to lose anyway so that your refusal to vote or writing in some crybaby alternate for Bernie will have no Impact on the election.

I can't remember how you maladjusted p@ussies feel about Elizabeth Warren. Are you cool with her as VP?

I just observe the Left-on-Left crime on these boards can be pretty funny. Afterall, there is more divergence, particularly economically, between the Regressive and the Dem base than there is between Dems and Rep

It's like what group does he identify with among those groups cited by Trump that would trigger him? Shoot -- most actual liberals would support that statement if it came from somebody else. Somebody who doesn't want to defeat anything "radical, Marxist, anarchism, agitators/provokers, looters and 'those who have no clue what they are doing'" must at minimum see these ideologies and behaviors as compatible with American society, which would make them a foolish twat.

Maybe he's an ANTIFA sympathizer or thinks Trump is referring to BLM and its Marxist leaders.

Trump vs. Carlson: Below are grabs from Carlson monologues over the past month, followed by quotes from Trump's July 3 speech.

Carlson: "For more than a month, mobs of violent crazy people have roamed this country, terrorizing citizens and destroying things."

Trump: "Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our Founders, deface our most sacred memorials, and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities."

Carlson: "The education cartel, enforced on your children, enforces their demands."

Trump: "In our schools, our newsrooms, even our corporate boardrooms, there is a new far-left fascism that demands absolute allegiance."

Carlson: "Few people ever could have imagined that Teddy Roosevelt would be canceled. Roosevelt was the most popular president in American history."

Trump: "One of their political weapons is 'Cancel Culture.'" And in a separate part of the speech, "Theodore Roosevelt exemplified the unbridled confidence of our national culture and identity. ... The American people will never relinquish the bold, beautiful, and untamed spirit of Theodore Roosevelt."

Carlson: "For weeks we've asked, 'Who will stand up for this country?' And the answer we're learning is Americans. Americans will. It's up to them. Small groups of citizens are beginning to come forward to defend their laws, defend their history and their culture."

Trump: "They think the American people are weak and soft and submissive. But no, the American people are strong and proud, and they will not allow our country, and all of its values, history, and culture, to be taken from them."

Carlson: "The Cultural Revolution has come to the West."

Trump: "Make no mistake: This left-wing cultural revolution is designed to overthrow the American Revolution."

The bottom line: If you want to know what Trump's going to say next, keep an eye on Carlson's monologues." Axios
