Friday Recruiting Update
Another week closer to the season starting and a week out from Fall Camp.Big BBQ for both 2022 and 2023 recruits coming up - see MBs details hereDecent chance that Cal exits the weekend (inclusive of Monday) with two announcements and just perhaps the two positions generating the most anxiety - DB and OL - won't be so angsty. The offer of DB Jahlil Florence is an interesting one. A superb athlete with wonderful size for the position. As high a ceiling as you will see but also a pretty low floor given his inexperience with Football. Comes from a very academically minded family which may allow Cal to sneak into the race alongside Michigan, UW and Oregon. UCLA has two other corners already with offers, both of whom the Bruins feel good about. That may allow the Bears to be the high academic, closest to home option. It also puts pressure on Jeremiah Earby and Cameron Sidney as DB spots are few and far between in this class. We continue to hear that Jake Maikkula, Sam Yoon and Jackson Brown are all closing in on a decision. Maikkula told us perhaps tomorrow, perhaps not. Our sense is he may take a bit more time. Brown is attending the BBQ and that has to feel good for the Cal staff. Yoon continues to analyze his priority preferences and the remaining slots at those schools. This next week likely will tell us a lot about how the OL class comes together for the Bears.

Friday AM Update
Greetings from gay Paris. Instead of scouting WRs and TEs, I'm working on Burgundy's and Bordeauxs.Between bites of Epoisse and sips of a Haut-Medoc, I'm hearing Jackson Brown is ready to pop for the Bears. The decision is likely made, timing may be based on his continuing to enjoy the additional offers and attention. Look for Mom to put her foot down and an announcement to be made soon. That will have implications for Sam Yoon. I'll put myself out there and suggest that once Jackson announces that will lead to Sam following him to Berkeley. Such strong relationships with both of these young men and the staff and wouldn't want to bet against Angus and Wilcox to close them both out.We still feel good about Tyler Banks though he's pretty careful on what he tells folks (look for an upcoming interview with Moraga Bear) and I wouldn't be surprised to see another announcement on top of or in lieu of potential ones from the three above mentioned recruits before this week is out.A Bientot and Go Bears!

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a Bear Insider rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the Bear Insider Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide Bear Insider readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Cal and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Cal and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
