Cal Football Fall Camp Day 10 - Full Scrimmage
The Bears saw more live action 11v11 than at any time this Spring and one of the two Quarterbacks fighting for the starting role had an edge.

Have the Bears improved themselves from last season?
Cal is coming off a disappointing 6-7 record from 2023. There are 60 new players on the roster, some coaching changes and a very different schedule as part of the ACC. Looking back in order to look forward, we evaluate where this team may be better (and worse) from last year

Top 10 Players to Watch in 2024 - #'s 8-10
Finishing this up with one postThese will be players that are either a bit off the radar, perhaps not penciled as starters or if they are starters, they're not currently slated to be difference makers by the media/pundits. However, we feel they have a chance to make a real contribution and emerge as important players on the team. These are not in "rank" order, just a simple list of ten players. And without further ado, here's the eighth:#8 - Jair Smith : Big time athlete with limited film and frankly someone who looked raw. Smith came in this Spring and was a dynamic play maker. A very effective blitzer from the slot CB spot and someone who made a bunch of interceptions. He's well built, quick and fast and has the hips and lateral agility you love in a cornerback. He's in a dog fight to start as the NB with Matt Littlejohn and while less experienced, may represent more upside. Regardless if he becomes the starter, he's going to play a lot. #9 - TJ Bollers: The Wisconsin transfer was nearly a five star recruit coming out of HS. Yet, he never was able to find the field in Madison. He fought a few health issues and then was outgrew the edge pass rusher spot he was originally intended to play. He's big, strong and tests really well athletically, enough so that he started Fall Camp as the primary back up to Nate Burrell. He's going to get every opportunity to prove he can be a rotational player for the Bears in September#10 - Kyion Grayes: Grayes was caught up behind a lot of talent at Ohio State. Despite their embarrassment of riches at the WR position, Grayes had a very good Spring for the Buckeyes, and would have had a chance to be in the two deeps had he decided not to transfer. Grayes is quick and fast, with some real explosion to his game. While he's not long, he's got the ability to play on the outside and get behind CBs and when he does catch the ball he can make defenders miss. Bloesch is saying he wants to play five or six WRs in 2024, and Grayes has a good chance to be one of that number

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a Bear Insider rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the Bear Insider Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide Bear Insider readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Cal and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Cal and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
