Football Staff Retention Update

This is the time of year when turnover begins to occur among football programs across the country.  Existing head coaches look to upgrade their staff, and new head coaches work to assemble theirs.   All of which makes talented individuals who are outperforming expectations, such as many of Cal’s current assistants, highly sought-after coaches.

He has had success as a head coach. It appears he can put together a good program and hire smart people.

Few consider that JW has put the lid on the O, esp after all those TOs. The question is, was it JW or BB who kept playing McI during that stretch? I think it was BB.

Regardless of who was the bigger advocate of the musical QB's this year, the buck stops with Wilcox.

The problem wasn't the musical QB's. They had to try both. Garbers hasn't been good enough either. Maybe they should have stuck with Bowers, who threw for 250 yards per game'last year. With that kind of production and our defense, we might be 9-2 or 10-1 right now. I don't know who's fault it is that our offense is stagnant, but it needs to get better fast. Hopefully, Garbers, Baldwin, and Tui will figure it out between them.

The buck stops with JW and under his leadership we're at 7-5 7-4, a record very few believed we could achieve with the current roster. Whatever he decides with BB after this season I'm confident it will be the right one for our situation. You'll never be able to hear all the detail behind closed doors so there's no point speculating, IMHO.

Bowers was injured. It seems that they would have kept him during the first game if they felt like he could continue to perform, but it looks like that wasn't the case.
