TCU Prep Starts Today

The Bears started TCU Prep today and are now counting down towards their match up leading up to the Cheez-It Bowl on December 26th. Offensive coordinator, Beau Baldwin, addressed the media today.

OC Beau Baldwin

  • On looking at the TCU defense: “They have consistently done very similar things for a lot of years on defense. Those types of teams that do it that way and that style in terms of consistency are normally pretty darn good at what they do.”
  • On any standouts on TCU: “91 probably jumps out as much as anyone jumps out. In all reality, you don’t see a lot of drop off. If I were to miss their 11 starters, it would be hard to list 1-11. The secondary is athletic all around, and the backers understand their role and what they do. 91 is a heck of a player, but I think everybody up front gives you some issues. I say that as a compliment, it's not if we handle this guy, we will have some success. It's not like that with TCU.”
  • On what they’ll do over the next week to get back to game speed: “it’s a combination with what they have done with coach Becton. Understanding how to practice since we have been back, it's just a combination with what we do in our strength program and how Coach Wilcox is structuring practice, and it was very close to what a Tuesday practice looks like.”
  • On how it differs from installing stuff and fine tuning next week: “We want to feel like by the time we get on our plane this weekend, we are ready to play. So again, once we get down there, we can get a few walk-throughs.”
  • On the energy level of the older guys: “Very good. They were good. They are ready to go, and you can feel it. The key is to continue to not peak too early. They have great energy but keeping that mindset where you aren’t getting stale because you have x amount of practices before you finally play again. I think with this group and their maturity they will keep that all the way through. “
  • On what he has seen out of Chase Garbers: “He is almost letting it rip more. Trusting that the windows might be tighter but I can still make that throw, and take that shot. Less processing and every rep become that much closer to not thinking, but playing.”
  • On Moe Ways leadership: It's impressive. It is. They probably use it more then I do, but I start to see it before games. It says a lot about him. His character, who he is, how he carries himself, and the message he delivers is real. Its fun to see, and we are really lucky to have him, and I am extremely lucky to have coached him.”
