2019 Early Signing Day Central
December 19 marks the second early signing day since the NCAA changed rules to allow recruits to sign in December, whether or not they planned to enroll for the spring semester.
The Bears are expecting to have all but potentially one or two of their committed recruits sign today, leaving 1-2 slots available for additional signings in the late signing period plus any potential transfers and grad transfers that fit on the overall 85-player roster.
First up today were a Texas quintet, followed by a quintet of Arizona signees:
Myles Jernigan -OLB 6-3/210 South Grand Prairie HS (Grand Prairie, TX)
70 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, one interception, two passes defended and two forced fumbles. Earned All-District.
MIles Williams -CB 6-0/170 Mansfield HS (Mansfield, TX)
56 tackles, two interceptions, six passes defended and four blocked kicks. Named District Utility MVP.
Craig Woodson -Safety 6-0/190 South Grand Prairie HS (Grand Prairie, TX)
96 tackles, two interceptions, 13 passes defended, two forced fumbles and two blocked field goals. Scored four td’s on offense. Named All-District.
McKade Mettauer OL 6-4/290 The Woodlands HS (The Woodlands, TX)
All-State junior and senior seasons and All-District in each of his final three seasons.
Curley Young OLB 6-1/210 Hendrickson HS (Pflugerville, TX)
Young can play both inside and out though we project him as a better-fit long-term on the inside because of his athletic ability. 40 Yard Dash: 4.6 Shuttle: 4.1 Vertical: 38 Powerball: 40 Bench: 375 and 23 reps of 225.
Braxten Croteau DE 6-5/240 Liberty HS (Peoria, AZ)
68 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 8 sacks, 14 quarterback hurries, three passes defended and one fumble recovery. Also had two td catches on offense. First-team 6A Conference All-State.
Brayden Rohme OT 6-6/270 Perry HS (Chandler, AZ)
Earned Frank Kush Award as the top senior offensive lineman in Arizona. Also first-team All-State.
DeCarlos Brooks RB 5-9/190 Chandler HS (Chandler, AZ)
2229 yards and 34 touchdowns on the ground and 25 receptions for 366 yards and three more td’s through the air. State Offensive Player of the Year, first-team All-State.
Brett Johnson DT 6-5/275 Desert Vista HS (Phoenix, AZ)
64 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 10 1/2 sacks, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble as a senior. First-team 6A All-State.
Ryan Puskas 6-3/210 Inside Linebacker Liberty HS (Peoria, AZ)
78 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, two sacks, five quarterback hurries, two interceptions, four pass deflections and one blocked kick. Conference 6A All-State as a senior.
Orin Patu OLB 6-4/200 Rainier Beach HS (Seattle, WA)
Earned All-State and All-Metro League honors to go along with Metro League Defensive Line MVP honors as a senior and has been invited to play in the Polynesian Bowl, Blue-Grey All-American Bowl, Professional Football Hall of Fame World Bowl and Hawaii Tiki Bowl.
Brian Driscoll OL 6-4/280 Torrey Pines HS (Encinitas, CA)
Played both ways at offensive and defensive tackle. First-team All-San Diego Section and All-League selection.
Kyle Smith Inside Linebacker 6-3/215 Los Gatos HS (Los Gatos, CA)
59 tackles, nine tackles for loss, one sack and three quarterback hurries along with 24 runs for 151 yards and one touchdown over seven games as a senior
Makai Polk Wide Receiver 6-3/175 El Cerrito HS (Richmond, CA)
42 tackles and eight interceptions on D and 30 receptions, 900 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns on O. Earned first team all league at cornerback and second team all-league at receiver as a senior.
Elijah Mojarro Tight End 6-4/225 Orange Lutheran HS (Orange, CA)
Had 61 receptions for 623 yards and six touchdowns in his prep career. Missed half of 2018 season with injury.
DeShawn Collins Running Back 5-10/200 CCSF/Grant HS (Sacramento, CA)
192 runs for 923 yards and 10 touchdowns. Also added 28 receptions for 434 yards and four more td’s. Earned JC All-American honors and first-team All-League.
Spencer Brasch Quarterback 6-4/190 Higley HS (Gilbert, AZ)
Completed 241-413 passes with 45 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Also rushed for 552 yards and nine touchdowns and earned a pair of All-Region honors over 2017 junior and 2018 senior years. Runs 4.61 forty, 11.47 100 and 49 second 400.
Ben Coleman Defensive Tackle 6-3/300 Linfield Christian HS (Murietta, CA)
Had 79 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 10 1/2 sacks as a junior. Missed his 2018 senior campaign due to injury. Also excelled at OL.
Blake Antzoulatos Middle Linebacker 6-2/225 Chaminade HS (Simi Valley, CA
152 tackles, 25 quarterback hurries, two interceptions and two passes defended. Earned first-team All-State, All-Southern Section and All-Mission League selections as both 2017 junior and 2018 senior. Antzoulatos was also named All-Mission League Defensive Player of the Year.
Jawuan Johnson 6-0/200 Wide Receiver Fullerton Collge (Fullerton, CA)
30 receptions for 590 yards (19.67 yards per catch) and four touchdowns in eight games in All-Conference soph season. Runs 10.7 100.
Kekoa Crawford 6-1/190 University of Michigan/Glendale Community College
Rated a high 4 star and the 26th overall receiver in the nation as a 2016 prep at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA after transferring from St. Francis/La Canada, where he played his first three seasons. 51 catches for 822 yards (16.1 yard per catch) along with seven touchdowns for Santa Margarita Catholic as a senior. Saw time as a true frosh at Michigan, playing in all 13 games, adding four catches for 47 yards and a touchdown. As a soph, Crawford had 17 catches for 243 yards and 1 td in 11 games. Michigan originally beat out Cal, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and a host of other program for Crawford’s commitment as a prep.
Jaylen Martin 6-2/170 Roosevelt HS (Los Angeles, CA)
29 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception and 12 passes defended
Kuony Deng 6-6/235 Independence CC
Top-rated JC All-American in the nation. 48 tackles, 5 1/2 tackles for loss,, 1sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and six pass breakups as a 2018 sophomore.
Devon Modster 6-2/215 UCLA transfer
Played in five games as a redshirt freshman at UCLA and completed 51-79 passes for 671 yards and four touchdowns and no interceptions, for a 152.61 passer efficiency rating.
Trevon Clark 6-4/180 El Camino College (Victorville, CA)
As a soph, had 57 catches for 986 yards and 10 touchdowns. Named JC All-American.
