Ashtyn Davis sits in the press box of Memorial Stadium on a mid-May afternoon as a platform and chairs are placed on the turf below for commencement ceremonies.

The statement isn’t totally true. There was a process, albeit an unorthodox one. It began and ended on the first weekend of June 2014 at Buchanan High School in Clovis, at the California state track meet.
