Patu steps back to move up

Cal freshman outside linebacker Orin Patu (48, above)  has moved some distance since his recently concluded high school days.

A couple of steps back and one arm up, to be exact.

After starring as a defensive end first at Sheldon High School in Eugene, Ore and then at Rainer Beach High in Seattle, he is changing positions in college.

The Cal coaching staff believed that Patu’s limber 6-4 frame had outside linebacker written all over it.
