Bynum and Deng added to Bednarik Award Preseason Watch List
Cal senior cornerback Camryn Bynum and senior lLB Kuony Deng were named to the preseason watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award as selected by the Maxwell Football Club National Selection Committee for the nation's top defensive player.
Last season, senior inside linebacker Evan Weaver was a Bednarik Award semifinalist. The consensus 1st Team All-American led the nation at the FBS level in total tackles with a school-record and career-high 182 tackles for the season.
Deng was not far behind, finishing third in the Pac-12 and 15th in the nation with 119 tackles after transferring to Cal from Independence CC. Deng also had 7 ½ tackles for loss, 3 sacks and 8 passes defended on the season.
Bynum, a three-year starter at cornerback, has posted career totals of 169 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, a half sack, five interceptions, 27 pass breakups and 32 passes defended for the Bears.
