Welcome to Cal, and go Bears!
Bears Stay Hot in July, Adding Bishop Alemany DE Myles Williams
The Bears continued their summer recruiting roll, securing a commitment from 6-3/250 Bishop Alemany (Mission Hills, CA) defensive end Myles Williams today.
Rated 3 stars by Rivals (5.5) and 247 (86 grade), Williams had additional offers from Arizona, ASU, Colorado, Washington State, Boston College and more.
“Cal’s close to home and not across the country, which my family really liked,” said Williams of his commitment to Cal.
“My first contacts were with Cal’s defensive line coach Andrew Browning and Michael Bruno. It’s been really good to have a great relationship with my future position coach and I’d say that’s grown exponentially over the past couple months.
“As I got to talk to more of the coaches, it just felt like the right fit at the right time.
“I’ve always followed the Golden Bears but I’ve recently been able to watch some game film with coaches and in the next fews days, I plan to take a trip up to the Bay Area for an unofficial visit so we’re looking forward to that.”
Bishop Alemany head coach Casey Clausen, himself a former star collegiate QB at Tennessee and in NFL Europe had this to say of Williams:
“Myles came here in January,” said Clausen. “He was in every morning with a great attitude and work ethic. A guy who’s 6-4/250+ who can get after the quarterback and play the run well is a great combo. His speed rush off the edge and his ability to play the run combined with his size, speed and stength on the edge will serve him well at the next level.”
Williams had a big junior season at Calabasas before transferring, recording 60 tackles, 16 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, 30 QB hits, 22 QB hurries and one forced fumble in 2019.
As for what the talented DE is most looking forward to with his future at Cal?
“I’m definitely looking forward to playing at the next level. It’s been a dream of mine,” said Williams. “And the cameraderie with the guys I’m really looking forward to experiencing.”
Williams joins fellow defensive line commit Akili Calhoun (Liberty/Brentwood), who will be a spring enrollee in January as current Cal D-Line commits.
The All-CIF DE will join a former Calabasas teammate in 2020 QB Jaden Casey, who enrolled early at Cal in spring.
