4 Star Moreau LB Elarms-Orr Stays Home For Cal
2021 6-3/225 Moreau Catholic (Hayward, CA) inside linebacker Kaleb Elarms-Orr became the latest Bay Area recruit to join the Bears after committing to Cal via Instagram live feed this afternoon.
“It’s been a long journey,” said Elarms-Orr in his announcement. “First and foremost, I’d like thank God for guiding me through this process. Without God, I wouldn’t be anything. And second, I’d like to thank my family -my mom, my dad, my TT and all my family members. They motivate me and keep me going everyday and remind of what’s right.“
“Next, I’d like to thank my MC teammates. They’re the ones who keep my going in practice and most importantly, in school. Coach Cottrell, Coach Slocum. They want what’s best for me and teach me not only on the field but off the field.
“That being said, the next three to four years, I’d like to commit to the University of California!
“Go Bears!”
“What made Cal the right choice, I like that Coach Wilcox is a very defensive-minded coach,” said Elarms-Orr of his decision. “Him, Coach DeRuyter and Coach Sirmon played a big role in my decision. Great resumes and put out great players.
“Cal went 8-5 last year and I think they’re on the rise to do even bigger things in upcoming years, especially with the ‘21 class like Akili Calhoun, myself, Kaleb Higgins, Moses Oladejo -lots of great guys on defense and on offense, too. The goal is to get a Rose Bowl, for sure.”
Elarms-Orr is already built like an NFL player and put up numbers to match in his junior season, with an Evan Weaver-like 121 tackles, 35 tackles for loss and 14 sacks in just 10 games for the Mariners.
Rated 4 stars (91) by 247 and ESPN (80) and 3 stars (5.6) Rivals, the local ILB visited Cal before practices were cut off early spring.
“It was good,” said Elarms-Orr at the time. “I got to talk to pretty much all of the coaches and to Coach Sirmon, the inside linebackers coach, because that’s where they see me at in the program.
“I got to see all the facilities and the academic advisors, talking about how competitive Cal is relative to other schools academically. I got to see the campus in a tour and that was nice.
“I enjoyed everything about it.”
Besides the local connection to Cal, with Moreau being just 20 minutes down the highway, Elarms-Orr has a family connection, as well.
“My mom went to Cal for her masters and she went on the visit with me and liked it there a lot, too,” said Elarms-Orr.
The Bears beat out Colorado in his final decision after earlier eliminating WSU, Arizona, Boise State and more ealier in the process.
The commitment pushed Cal to #20 overall in 247 recruiting class rankings. Elarms-Orr is the Bears’ 19th overall commit in the 2021 class.
